Where do you keep your fitness equipment? I’m assuming even though most carry a gym membership or have a community fitness center, almost every one has one trademill, elliptical, stationary bike etc. for days when you are short on time or just don’t feel like going out?

Just wondering if so many people have a designated home theater, home office, dinning room etc then is there a trend of having home gyms?

I've had to sell most fitness equipment I've owned over time because there isn't room for it in the places I've lived.

I have a treadmill in the master bath. It folds up when I'm not using it. My mother-in-law's elliptical machine is in the upstairs play room.

We have a pilates machine and elliptical in a side area of our master. It would probably be called a "sitting room" if marketing the house but we've never seen the point of a couch or chairs 10 feet from a bed which is much more comfortable. We have a second pilates machine in a downstairs room that would best be called a study. But my wife has a personal trainer come to the house rather than doing a gym membership. We'd probably have one machine, at most, if she joined a gym.

Our house has 6 bedrooms, so we turned one of them into our home gym. Enough room for my wife's treadmill, my elliptical and weight station/home gym. Also put our massage chair in there. We didn't go all out and put mirrors on a wall, but we did cover the floor with rubber tiles.

It's enough of a workout that we don't have a gym membership. As far as trends go, a lot of the houses I've looking at that are $800k and up seem to have full on home gym setups. Just can't beat the convenience.

Same for us.

I did put mirrors on one wall, the one facing my squat stands, because keeping an eye on my squat form is important to prevent injuries.

3rd stall of our garage for a power rack with an olympic bar, ez curl bar, adjustable bench, adjustable DB set, couple of kettle bells, several power bands, and 325 pounds of bumper plates. It takes up about half of the stall and space to work out has not been an issue. It does get hot in the summer but I'm a morning workout person and it's manageable with a floor fan for me. We put a spin bike and a couple of smaller items on our second floor landing which is roughly about 500 sq ft. All in all I invested somewhere from 3-4k last year and wish I would have done it sooner. Convenience is unmatched, I'm more consistent, save all kinds of time, and I get to avoid the headaches that come from your standard gym. Added bonus at about $125 a month for the wife and I to go to LifeTime it will eventually pay for itself. Factor in the time and gas saved it's a no brainer if you have the space and and ability to invest.
