My wife has developed a severe allergy to many types of jewelry. It used to just be that she couldn't wear earrings but her skin has become more sensitive over time and now several of her favorite rings irritate her to the point of rashes. The rings I'm looking to sell are not anything spectacular - just a few platinum infinity bands with diamonds and sapphires in there. Nice quality, but we're not talking multi-carat engagement rings here.

Is there anywhere that buys jewelry and doesn't just completely kill you on price? The responses from my google searches seem unreliable (mostly paid search results or reviews that could be faked), and I really am loathe to mail them away to some online-based service unless someone has a rec for a really good one.

If I can't get anywhere near what they're worth (allowing for the fact that I'm not expecting someone to pay me retail or even close), I'll probably just hang on to them and give them to family members over time. I just don't have any family members that would have a need for quite some time and would rather sell them. We almost misplaced them when we moved from our last house, so I'd prefer to avoid something like that in the future.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you try selling them on EBay?

I would go to some real jewelry stores (not mall jewelry stores!) that carry "estate" jewelry and start there. It doesn't sound like there's any urgency, and I think you need more information. I definitely would not mail it off anywhere. You want to bring the pieces to someone and have them give you money, all in person.

I don’t know but common sense says go to a jeweler in Highland Park, likely you’ll get better price in a wealthy area as their margin on resale can be higher.

I haven't done business with them, but I met one of the owners at a charity function and spent some time chatting. They are super nice people.

I'd actually avoid ebay. The chance of getting screwed as a seller is so high with them.

Not sure of what they'd pay, but I was also thinking of suggesting Dallas Gold and Silver.
