I have a 2bed 2bath in an older complex in McKinney for less than $1k so it is doable. The newer shinier ones will probably be more for a 1bed. It is doable. Anna, Melissa, Princeton, et al to the north may be less expensive but there are not a lot of apartment options in those places, mostly SFH.

Why not look further south like Plano or Richardson? You would be closer to the colleges. You aren't purchasing a home so there's no need to establish yourself in a northern suburb unless you really like that lifestyle. Two working adults with no kids making your salary should be able to swing a 1BR no problem unless you have a ton of student, car, credit debt, etc.

You didnt say where you planning to attend school. If in Denton, then maybe northern Frisco or Celina would be better. 380 would bring you into Denton and McKinney.

Traffic is VERY bad in the Collin County area due to all the apartment complexes in Plano.

I generally thought traffic was bad because of the number of cars on the road.

I kind of been doing the shotgun approach applying to every and all jobs that match my current job position up North. My wife will be able to receive her temporary LVN license in a few weeks and start applying to jobs.

Applied to jobs in Wichita Falls, Denton, Dallas, Plano, Irving, McKinney, Arlington, Temple, Austin, Waco, and San Antonio. Have an interview coming up soon for a job in McKiney Texas. From research the job pays about $33,000 a year going to see if I can talk it up to $35,000 a year.

How is McKinney Texas? We briefly looked at rents online. We hope to find a 1bdrm $1000 or less. Think that is doable? Any other area's outside of McKinney to check out?

Think McKinney be a good choice for people coming from a smaller City of about 100,000 people?

Is traffic bad in the Collin County area? Right now work variable hours. My commute is about 40 to 60 minutes for 30 Miles one way. Way home if I work days could be about a 70 minute commute. I do believe this job will be a night gig so it'll be off regular commuting hours.

No children as of yet, but hopefully next year. Schools aren't a big concern yet for us. For us higher education is a bigger concern as I want to go for my LVN and my wife wants to go for her RN.

Do you think McKinney has decent healthcare options wife is an LVN. We don't think finding work will be much of a challenge for her.

As far as interest wife loves the library and walking. I love running. Is there good libraries in the area as well as bike paths?

Do appreciate the insight can offer up.

Kind regards.
I’m going to assume that you are a CNA currently? I wouldn’t waste time going for the LVN. In DFW none of the big hospitals will hire you and you will be stuck working in nursing homes which tend to pay much lower than hospitals. For you I would suggest getting a CNA job at one of the big hospital groups as many of them will pay for your nursing school if you work there. That’s what my wife did and she got her RN completely debt free. Also for some reason the hospitals in Collin County are much smaller than the ones in Dallas so your chances of landing a job are better there than in McKinney/Collin County. Since you don’t have kids I would say look to live in Dallas for a better commute
