I lived in the DFW area for a total of 16 years, I've never seen a forecast with consecutive days with that high of actual air temps. Crazy!

Be safe for everyone.

Yep this is extreme heat coming directly from the Sahara Desert, blowing straight across the Atlantic and up to Texas.

2011 was pretty similar. First five days in August that year were 106, 108. 109, 109, 108 and the majority of July and August were above 100.

1980 is still the hottest on record I believe (way before my time in Texas), but this year is shaping up to be a lot like 2011.

OK. I was there in 2011, I know it was a brutal summer, didn't realize temps were that high. Wow.

Since its already 105+ in Dallas and August is the hottest month, does that mean it will be 115+ in August ?

Las Vegas at the moment is 101F 28% for a heat index of 103. Headed for a high today of 104 so it is not likely we will catch up to Dallas today. Do have forecasts for 110 early next week. Maybe then Dallas will be more comfortable. though if you guys really do hit 110 that is going to be harsh.

It’s unlikely. The hottest we’ve ever been was 113 during the 1980 heat wave.

We are currently experiencing a bonafide heat wave. The last time we seen an Excessive Heat Watch/Warning, was in 2011 during that major heat wave. It’s not normal for us to see temps this high in Dallas...but it can happen.

We have been upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning please take the nessecary precautions. This is NOT typical Texas summertime heat. It is very dangerous to be outside at long lengths of time. High temps will range from 103 to 108. Some locations could be hotter than that. This heat warning will last until Friday but 100 degree high temps will last until next week.

And this is coming in from the Sahara Desert? Did I read that right?

No, the dust is coming from the Sahara Desert. That’s why the sky has been hazy.

The heat is caused by high pressure (heat dome) that’s parked over the region. This is a typical summertime pattern for Texas but it’s stronger than usual.
