Are the donuts trendy donuts or just old school donuts? We try and stay away from donuts so I haven't been into one of the shops that I too have seen, but I figured it was kind of like how the cupcake made a comeback. I figured they were offering trendy donuts and high end coffee.

Plus in the suburbs, we have young to raise to maturity and so pair bonded mates putting on a few extra pounds better ensures clan survival in case of famine. Thus...the plentitude of donuts.

No they are old school, nothing trendy about them. In my experience they are pretty mediocre. As much as I would prefer to "go local", dunkin donuts and krispy kreme generally have better products. They also don't really seem to be that busy. There is about 10 within 5 miles of of where I live in Irving.

The running joke with my friends is they are a front. lol

I’m always shocked at the number of mattress/bed stores in Dallas. Maybe all the donut eating wears out the old mattress?

This makes a lot of sense; commute, cheap business to get into..... another angle is so many people getting new jobs so bringing donuts into the office or having them in the break room is an easy social entree

It's too bad they haven't thought of putting a new twist on the donut. I think some places do have trendy donuts. Off topic..I've noticed background music in stores here can be really bad. It's like generic pop music from the eighties but none of the hits from the eighties. It's like music that you might imagine would be in a communist block country or North Korea. I'll have to pay attention more and see if it is really a pattern here, but I've noticed it a few times especially in some grocery stores.

Naw that's a national trend. Google "Why are there so many mattress stores in ______?" and you will get results for any city.

There are definitely a few. Hypnotic donuts near White Rock Lake comes to mind.

Most of the generic places I can barely tell if they have a name other than “Donuts”.

Oh yeah, Hypnotic donuts is awesome.

Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum is also pretty good, but sorta overpriced and overrated in my opinion.
