My husband and I just moved here (to Prosper, but have family in other northern suburbs and have observed the same pattern). We've lived in about 10 different states between the two of us and we cannot fathom why there are so many donut shops here. Like legitimately in every strip plaza-- it is not like this elsewhere. I've tried googling to no avail. What's the scoop? Do Dallas suburbanites go through a dozen per week?

P.S. The same is true for dentists! (maybe its all the donuts )

I have no idea. I noticed that as well. I've never been anywhere with so many donuts shops either. Of the ones I have been to, I've noticed they are all very similar, down to the boxes, but I don't think they are are a franchise.

I miss those mom & Pop donut places.
Hate the franchise ones.
I chalk it up to the diversity in the Dallas Area. Give kuddos to the people coming here from other countries and starting their own business.
I'd rather spend 12.00 at a mom & pop than at a franchise.
I used to have my favorites in Richardson.

Donuts became a thing. After cupcakes became a thing. Then there were cronuts. I never had one but they sound enticing!

Fellow Prosperite here...definitely there are a lot of donut shops. Unfortunately, they ALL taste the same...no originality!

I like doughnuts. I've never understood how the word doughnut got shortened to donut. Doughnuts are made of dough not do.

This is the best explanation. The Dallas suburbs are generally fatter than than the central city neighborhoods. In the central city neighborhoods, there are younger people who are often single and given how competitive the mating marketplace is, keeping a lower BMI is essential. In the suburbs, there is more partnering off and some degree of complacency, raising BMI levels.

Southern California has a ton of donut shops too. I chalk it up to having long commutes and the need to have something easy to eat. It’s also easier to open a donut shop for immigrants who move to the country as well for what ever reason.
