Both have graduated My son is a web developer in dallas and my daughter has taken a break from college to join the army and is stationed in Korea right now. I think she thought Army life would be more exciting than college, but now she is back to cracking the books with Army U.

LakeFun is on a distinguished road
I have lived in Rowlett for about 15 years. Rowlett has grown tremendously during this time as it is in a desrable area located on a pennisula surrounded by Lake Ray Hubbard.
We have a newish Home Depot, Walmart and Super Target making shopping much more convenient.
The school system is in the Garland School District and there are many programs available for students.
I liked Rowlett so much that 7 years ago I moved from one house in Rowlett and had a new house built just a mile or two away in Rowlett.
Overall, I think Rowlett is a good place to live.
My neighbor is being transferred to OKC, OK. and has a WATERFRONT house on 2.25 acres with a Guesthouse for sale. You can find out more about this property at Lake Fun 4U

Yes
Yes
and YES! Very much so.
I'm a VERY involved person in the community.

BTW, guess many of you can not read as most of what I have recently posted were comments taken from OTHER people that live in Rowlett on a community forum besides my OWN comments that told about the fact concerning the tax rates and water rates and the location of the landfill. Getting mad over facts, oh well. Geez.

Oh well, have fun as right now it looks as if your new mayor is really going to help propell the city even further. With the people being let go w/ the city the rest of the employees are out looking for jobs now too. How do I know this? I have a VERY close relative that works for the city Already the developers that WERE looking at property along the future 190 corridor are pulling out. Not a good sign at all.

LakeFun, are you aware that your street is going to dead end right onto 190? Literally yards from you.

As for Rowlett Mom and Suburb Mom, no need to fear about my time or day. Most of those pics were from a friend and a relative that HAVE to take pics be it in their job description or they have had enough of the neighbors messes and take the pics to have proof. Sorry my posts offended you but I was only giving the honest answers that people seek. Let's see: I've gotten blasted in the past for making everything in the Dallas area look "too rosy" and then when I tell the truth with facts it gets others upset, LOL!!!

Oh well, to each their own.

Its Ok to be "Mad"momof2dfw. I just can't believe that a person of your education, income, knowledge and opinions would ever live in Rowlett for 5 years? Why so long? Sometimes you just need to let things go and let yourself begin healing, whatever happened to you, happened in the past, nobody can change that. I can tell you that I have the same opinion of Garland, I could not say enough bad things or move fast enough. But now I am in Waterview and life is much better, no junky cars, no over-grown lawns, no old fences or houses in need of repair because of the HOA. And all the foreclosures are due to the fact that the Tele-Com corridor lost key business Anchors, and all of the Techies (usually very informed) lost high paying jobs. Foreclosures are signs of the economy not the neighborhood and they can be very good deals.

Remember, "Life is what YOU make of it."

This is tiresome, ok, glad you like "firewheel", glad your happy.
I can't help you change the opions about Garland that people have, most people are going to continue believing what they percieve as the truth.
I can't change your mind about Rowlett and I'm not really interested in doing that. Those of us that live here would not consider moving to Garland.
We are happy with the easy location to eveything here, the quality of life in Rowlett as a whole and not just some neighborhoods. Rowlett will never be a big suburb and that's good. I do agree with everyone about people who move into an area for a couple of years and move on. That has to be tough on kids going from one school to another. I know with some jobs you have to do that to move up and I'm ok if the majority of those people want to move out to the newer suburbs. I'm sorry for the people that overpaid to get into a pricy area and can't sell their homes now for what they think they should be worth. If you can stick around for awhile and keep your house up, it will pay off. We all chose to live where we do and everyone seems to be happy with their choice here. I don't dislike any of the places people talk about here. I am glad to not run into people on a daily basis that slam other parts of town, they must be rude in general, or have a mighty high opion of themselves. You know people from up North just clump us in with the rest of the south, think we're ignorant Bush crazed people in fly over country.
What do they know. I care about that as much as I care what people think about what city I live in. I hope everyone reading this is happy with their lives and don't spend a lot of time worrying about such things. Be a good neighbor and friend wherever you live and life will be better.

I'm not so sure about the complaining about RHS. I graduated in 2004, my sister in 2006 and my brother will finish in 2011. We all came up through Rowlett Elem, Coyle, and then RHS and we never had problems with it. This type of thing can happen anywhere that parents try to be too cool with kids or just don't know how to discipline. I know you're not supposed to spank kids, but most of them just needed a good spanking 5 years ago.

As far as the quality of the school, it was top notch when I was there and, as far as I know, nothing has changed. I got a great education, full of AP classes, and have done well in a large university since graduating. As far as sending your kids to magnet schools, I think that is silly. Most of my friends that went off to some special school (Kimberlin, Austin, Brandenburg is a magnet now I think, GHS, LCHS) ended up coming back to their normal school. You can either be the normal kid at the normal school or the smart kid at the dumb school. Take your pick.

Kids are idiots. As long as you don't let your kid be too big of an idiot they'll be fine. Not so sure about ruling with an iron fist -- just use common sense and be a parent.

Default you must really hate Rowlett, especially Waterview, It shows

It seems to me that you have invested a lot of time researching this place and putting it down. I could address a lot of issues going on in the Big D. I'm am investor and I own homes in Dallas, Waterview, and Frisco just to name a few. I can name alot of posistive things as well as the negatives about all of these places. Foreclosures are on the rise everywhere. If someone is looking for a place to call home in Rowlett, it really depends on your situation, if you have small children etc. I would not want the advice from someone who only have negative things to say about a city they use to live in. If you do a market analysis you can find a nice home in all of the communities in Rowlett, or any of the surrounding cities for approx 250,000 to 350,000.
