OK don't take this in the wrong way, but a classmate of mine says "When I was little, we had a 'weekend farm' up in Plano. I didn't want to go up there then, why would I want to go up there now?"

I wonder why anyone thinks Plano should have some rich cultural heritage. The place was a bunch of patures less than 3 decades ago. Takes a little time for a boom town to develop any sense of history or culture when it is completely changed in a matter of a few years of growth. Not to mention, when you are 20 minutes from downtown Dallas, its not difficult to go to museums or whatever it is you like.
I lived in Plano for 4 years, and while I don't see me and my wife moving back there anytime soon, I liked living there. And really, I don't see what the other burbs have that make them any better than Plano. Some of the nicest people I met while selling high end retail equipment lived in Willow Bend. Funny, because the 2 years I lived in Tarrant county, all I heard about north Dallas/Plano was how everyone was rude and uppity. When I moved to Plano I was actually dreading having to deal with it. Then I found out it just flat out was not true, at all. The most annoying and difficult customers to deal with almost always came from north Dallas. But I'm not gonna say the people from that area are all like that. Maybe I just had bad luck with people from that area. I'm sure there are plenty of good people there.

LOL!!! I've heard that as well. Most people do not realize that there was a "day camp" right on the Richardson/Garland border. Girls from the wealthy families in Dallas would go "camp" at this horse ranch for weeks at a time or their family would take them for the day. Part of it is still there.

Well, it is by water but not a water tower (that I've noticed)

I remember when the tollroad ended at the Galleria Mall. It turned into Dallas Parkway and there was nothing but car lots for the next 5 miles (Henry Butts Oldsmobile was one). Once you got to Addision there was the airport and that was it. My first job out of highschool was out near Addison airport and the only place they had nearby to eat was a Stop & Go. There was nothing else within a decent driving distance. Things have really changed over the years.

Ya I can remember that too! There is a good article on it that explains how it expanded over the years. Now, it goes all the way up to 380 and they are going to make it go all the way up past Celina.

The above are all objective reasons that we can discuss about Plano. That's cool. The above are some of the reasons why I don't live in Plano anymore. Plano's chill for families, and I liked growing up there- but i'm a 24 year old single guy. Plano is not the scene for me.
What I will not tolerate, which i mentioned, many, many times is this: "People that live in Plano think they're better than everyone else." This statement is ridiculous and untrue. There's no data to support it, no logic to support, and is just based on stereotypes, biases, and irrationality. We need to separate the facts and data from stupid truisms like these. It's equally dumb to say "Dallas is ghetto".
I have no problem discussing plano's faults if it's grounded in rationality and facts. I have no problem saying Plano is terrible is if you want a pedestrian oriented lifestyle with museums to visit on the weekends; however, I will continue to mock and belittle the posters who continue to bash Plano with attacks that aren't based on logic, data, and thoughtful analysis and that rely on "omg, one person said this about plano, so it must be true."

I don't really think the haters are saying Plano is populated by people who think they are better than everyone else now.
They've changed their strategy to saying it's full of gay eskimoes.
I'm still trying to figure out which approach is more idiotic...
