It's not resentment in the least. It's just personal rejection of that lifestyle. An example: Let's assume you're not gay. And let's assume you have no desire to live in the Castro district, have no desire to have sex with men, and don't even find men particularly attractive. You may not even be interested in activities that, while not strictly gay, are associated with gay people.

Do you think the gay community assumes that you resent them? Perhaps you don't hate them; perhaps you're content to let them live their lives their way while you live your life another way. But they likely don't resent your straight-ness, and you don't resent their gay-ness. You've each taken a look at the lifestyle the other has and said NOPE! Not for me!
What an absolutely ridiculous comparison. Like others have said, I disagree, but can understand references to the built environment as reasons not to like Plano. However the references to "lifestyle", and "people who think they're better" is juvenile.

And yes, resentment for those who are successful and wealthy is very common.

Right, because they'd much rather reside with the largely old money crowd who thinks they're superior to everyone because their family got ahead through the exploitation of the less fortunate and melanin enhanced.

I mean, atleast new money folks worked for their cash, and I know I'd much rather live around those types than self-absorbed, wannabe-cultured, faux-riche whites in the Park Cities and Preston Hollow.

No, others hide behind the "fact" that they think they're better than everyone else...

Another brilliant comment to top off a long list of brilliant comments. Sorry, pal, riche is riche... You can throw whatever descriptors you want on it.

Not everyone wants the subject of every conversation to be about money, jobs, acquisition of toys, etc. I have my own issues with the bubble crowd (which has to do with their segregation), but saying
I resent them because they have money is not my reason for disliking some of these types.

"Better than" types are not really welcomed around here, so you are barking up the wrong tree with that comment. I was brought up to believe that nobody is better than anyone else and if they start putting on those airs, don't waste your time...

Well that doesn't keep you from throwing out insulting comments at every opportunity, so you clearly hold the "better than" attitude near and dear.

It's funny; I don't see anyone from Plano or the other suburbs posting about money or toys until it becomes necessary to respond to some moron who doesn't know what they're talking about and makes those very things the subject of an attack. So again, you are clearly lost.

Fortunately, your little act is wearing really thin, and enough people have about had their fill of your crap that you're finally starting to get called out on it.

I thought this thread had gotten back on track. Looks like the lug nuts are loose and the wheels are about to come off again. Carry on folks.

Well, I did too. Just when it looks like things are going to get a little better and more civil, the attention mongers come back out. It's unfortunate that certain members just can't contain themselves. It just really gets under their skin that places other than where they live receive accolades and recognition. It is a sign of immaturity, insecurity, resentment and egotism.

They even admit it that it bothers them for other places to get the limelight: http://www.city-data.com/forum/4741448-post54.html

Of course 5900 posts in a little over a year tells you something about their pathological craving for attention as well....

That post seems perfectly reasonable to me. Ask anybody who grew up in Dallas. This is the Dallas Forum?

I don't think that I personally attacked you or called anyone from Plano, 'pathological'.

The only reason I rejoined this thread is that I dislike the blanket class envy argument to shoot down any criticism of certain areas.

That post was a clear admission that you just can't stand it when someone else gets recognition. The fact that because many people found something good doesn't mean they're jumping on a bandwagon or that they're sheep.

I also would like to note that in the above referenced post you sang a sad sad song lamenting the bad rep the DISD gets. I think that's ironic on this, one of the darkest days for that punch line of a school system. But hey, everybody's a winner as long as they try hard....

You just can't be happy that other places are good and that other people are happy. Yes, that's resentment.

And your favorite 'criticism of other areas' is to construct an emotional diversion based on race/segregation/diversity, because that kind of ignorant, baseless accusation creates enough shock value that you don't have to face the pathetic truth of your own lame failure of an argument.
