I think you meant to say:
"Well enough about you, MY town is the best, REGARDLESS of what the subject of the thread is, and I'm going to PROVE it by going to every single thread in this forum and jacking it to tell you that I live in _____ and it is THE BEST city ever in the history of western civilization. Oh, and Plano SUCKS ."

West Plano is filled with newer, more expensive homes than the rest of Plano. It does have some beautiful areas though...and the neighborhoods at not so cookie-cutter as north Plano, since...well, people in West Plano typically have MONEY, and therefore there are a lot of custom or semi-custom homes. Pros: Proximity to Tollway is very handy, the new Tom Muelenbeck Rec Center is fabulous, and you are very close to Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Cons: Little economic and cultural diversity (although Plano OVERALL is quite diverse, west plano not so much...mostly due to cost of housing in that area). Somewhat snobbish...kids expected to have the right clothes, a new car, etc...gotta "keep up with the joneses" ya know...but that seems to be a problem almost everywhere nowadays

That seems just as knee jerk and closed minded as what you are attacking. Look I don't like West Plano at all, I wouldn't live there on a bet,it is everything I don't like about an area, but lots of people love it and it fits their needs. It doesn't fit mine, and my neighborhood wouldn't fit theirs. That's the best thing about a metropolitan area like Dallas. If what West Plano offers is right for you, great there it is, if What Uptown, Oak Cliff, Lakewood, Frisco, McKinney, Deep Ellum, etc, etc , etc offer is right than move there. Just because I don't like West Plano doesn't mean I'm jealous, nor does it mean that I think badly of those that love it. The important thing is to find the area that works for you.
Can't we all just get along.

I don't think anyone is not getting along. There are those of us here who are candid; a little ribbing never hurt anyone. Some members incessantly take shots at Plano for whatever reason, and therefore open themselves up to shots back at them. No harm in that. When someone slams something that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of the thread, they can realistically expect backlash.
The discourse is not hostile, merely blunt. I enjoy a little passionate competition, and I sense that there are some other feisty members who enjoy it as well. I think if they were offended, they'd say so, as would I. On other topics we converse just as reasonably as if we were next door neighbors; it just depends on the subject.
In every forum, there are members who come in when there is banter, and ostensibly try to 'make peace', when it isn't necessary to do so at all. Those are often the people who slyly are just trying to stir things up. Relax.

lol. I love plano, but remember the "golden rule" guys.
This type of discourse just reinforces the stereotype that we're fighting against....

Does all this make sense ??

West Plano: Where exactly is it? What makes it so great?
|
Let's take this in 2 parts.
Q1. Where is it? West Plano is kind of west of central Plano and east of east Carrollton and Lewisville. It's very far west of East Plano.
It is broken down into southern West Plano & it's northern neighbor north West Plano.
Q2. What makes it so great? West Plano has it's own Toll Road that allows Highland Park people to go to the Frisco mall and generates cash that is wasted by the city.
East Plano's main Highway is free and no self respecting rich person will drive up it to go to McKinney so it only attracts poor to middle income car owners and generates no cash value.... what a waste.
The really rich West Plano people live in South West Plano cause they have the money to build a 2nd toll road and name it after the worlds greatest president George Bush.
I wish the would let us know is that GB #1 or GB #2 ?? That is the big question.

Newbie here...I do notice a lot of west Plano bashing on here and I think it's because people who can't afford to live there are just jealous. I'm sorry but ask any average DFW person the three most prestigious areas (based on perception) of Dallas and you'll likely hear Highland/University Park, Preston Hollow, and west Plano.
There is no other place of DFW in my opinion that has such an abundnace of wealth and high-end retailers all in such a small area...I mean, there's every brand of luxury car dealership including a Ferrari/Lamborghini dealership, upscale shopping including Saks and Neiman's, a multitude of fine dining, and of course amazing homes and a very exclusive golf course/club. It's the closest thing to Scottsdale, AZ I've ever seen and few other affluent places can compare in terms of high-end amenities.

As tycobb ducks and vows to bite his lip when the disparaging comments flood this thread following this post. Let me guess: the first flaming arrow will include something that starts with "debt", and ends with "up to the eyeballs". With of course, no data whatsoever to back it up...

I'd like to know what the people in East Plano think of West Plano. And I don't buy that 'envy' argument to counter every criticism of W. Plano, Southlake or Park Cities. Many parts of Dallas are more expensive than those places.
You have to realize that growing up here all everyone heard is "Plano, Plano, Plano" ad naseum. That's why a lot of people take delight in hearing that Plano is passe' and now there's new and improved version - that's why we take delight in fricasseeing Frisco.

I have friends who give parties in W. Plano and I am up there a few times a year. One of my favorite things to do is find someone new and somehow mention Fair Park. Usually I will get some sort of negative reaction. It is then I spring my trap - "Well, I live right next to it."
I have so much fun with that!
