Can we get a source that doesn't have a paywall? Can't do incognito tabs here.

Weird, usually one may read a story or two before the pay-block kicks in. I'll look around a bit later.

I used up my free stories the first 8-9 days of September due to the Botham Jean shooting. On all devices.

Ah. Didn't know it worked like that.

Search - Lyndo Jones, Derick Wiley Mesquite Police Department shooting - or similar.

Yup...I'm not a DMN subscriber so I have a limited number of free stories per month. Many newspapers are doing that now (WaPo, NYT, even the Salt Lake Tribune).

I did hear about this case...I think the reason it's not more prominent is because both the victim and the officer are black, and also because the victim survived the shooting.

From what I hear, the shooting was totally unjustified and the officer overreacted. I haven't seen any of the footage though; I'll have to make some time to look at that.

If I may throw in my personal experience here, given these two postings on the subject (this one and the Botham Jean)...

About 20 years ago I broke off an engagement. The guy climbed the brick wall up the side of my apartment to the third story, came in my balcony sliding door, got a knife from my kitchen, and held me down, knife to my throat, going into great detail about what he was going to do to me and how much he would enjoy it. By the grace of God, I got away and a neighbor helped me, etc, etc. Cops took my story, went to his home about 2 days later, took him in very gracefully and quietly from what his friends told me, and he was released a couple of hours later. I testified on the horror of the incident in front of the grand jury, and they chose not to bring charges. He was white.

Fast forward to 2 years ago. My husband (black) and our oldest daughter started arguing. One thing led to another and he knocked her chair over at which time she cut her head on a nearby metal frame. She called the police (angry teenager not thinking). Three cops barged into my home, hands on guns the minute I opened the door, grabbed my husband and threw him across the table, pressed his face into the table and held him down. When they entered, he had laundry in his hands, and immediately complied with them, no resistance whatsoever. He received a felony while the guy who really was trying to kill someone got nothing.

Incidentally, the white guy did the same thing to his next girlfriend, I testified again as to his violent nature, and again, no charges

I would not have believed it if it didn't happen to me

Incidentally, you may be wondering: I'm white- blonde hair blue eyes

This was all over the news last year. If you didn’t hear about this, you’ve been under a rock.

Negative. The Jones storey was all over the news for about two days and then gone.
