Hi everyone,
Ok so all the springtime flowers seem to be out in full force and it seems like this weekend would be the time to go for a hike to check them out. So, where around Dallas or FtW is a nice place to go for a nature walk with two young kids. I was thinking around Lake Lewisville. Any suggestions?

Obviously the Dallas Arboretum would be gorgeous, but it will also be packed. White Rock Lake would be nice.

Joe Pool lake would be great but it may be a little to early for the bluebonnets to be in full swing.

Thanks, I'll look them up online. I did hear that the Arboretum was gorgeous but the two boys will want to charge around like bloodhounds on a scent and I won't be able to enjoy the flowers much (yup its all for selfish ol' me!).

Since you're in Carrollton, you might check out the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano (off Parker in Far West Plano) - Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (http://www.plano.gov/Departments/parksandrecreation/Parks_Facilities/arbor_hills.htm - broken link)

I saw this link earlier today. It may be too far of a drive for you though.
Trinity River Corridor Project, Dallas, Texas (http://www.trinityrivercorridor.org/html/upcoming_events.html - broken link)

Thanks for the link. It does seem to be a nice park. I was also thinking of the Elm Fork Nature Preserve but dogs are a no-no.
I'm not sure where the trinity river corridor actuall is somewhere west of us?? Thanks for all the info.

The hike is in the Great Trinity Forest just south of downtown Dallas.

Take the kids to the Arboretum along w/ your camera. It is a GREAT place to go for them to run around and burn up energy and you can still enjoy the flowers as well as the views. I've had to chaperone enough field trips thru the Arboretum that I still like to do it as I can enjoy the scenery and the quietness of it even though the kids feel like they have infinite freedom to run and play to their hearts content. This is the one field trip I ALWAYS GO ON!!!!!!!!!! The ONLY time I had any kind of "issue" was in my group I had the kid that flew ahead of everyone AND the kid that was 5 miles back still "smelling the flowers". LOL!!! Can't take the dog though.

Not much to walk around up in Lewiville around the lake. A lake, some picnic tables, maybe a spot where a fishing peir is available and some grass/dirt to run around on.

I'm taking my kids on a hike thru the Spring Creek Forest Preserve here in Garland sometime soon. The one Saturday I find we DON'T have something taking up the whole day ............. we WILL be there!

We get to pass thru it and next to it almost daily but hardly ever get the time to stop and REALLY explore this great slice of nature right in our backyard. Easy for you to get to right down 190.
