Hey guys, my family and I (2 adults + 2yr old) will be driving from STL to Stonewall, TX (hill country) this month and plan to arrive in the DFW area around 3pm on a Saturday for lodging. I was wondering if the forum had any ideas on a Hilton hotel we can stay at that may be near a safe park for our little one to run around in after a long day in the car.

Here's what we need:
  • Hilton hotel (not a Hampton Inn) near a park (open to ideas for anything else that may be free and a way to decompress all of us)
  • Family friendly restaurant nearby
  • Easily get to highway 281 to avoid i35

If this requires us to stay in Plano or one of the surrounding areas, we are open to it.

Thanks for your help!

Don't know about all of them but the one in Rockwall is on a lake. Pool/hot tub and beautiful views of the lake. You can walk to The Harbor which has ice cream shops, restaurants, and bars.

Rockwall is EAST of Dallas...think that is going out of your way

In Southlake TX--off 121/114 very close to DFW Airport--if you are flying in from STL and renting car
There is Hilton in the Southlake Town Center--

But re-reading guess you are driving in

This Hilton is in Open air mall where there are restaurants and a movie theater--every safe area
There is open air small green space w/gazebo where the kids could play
Think there could be city park close by but not IN that area
Close to Grapevine Mills mall---
There are in Southlake recreation activities like those bounce place or in Grapevine a bowling alley/video Game Center--
Good/safe area right off 114...

This is 2nd Hilton very close to DFW airport
https://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/te...HHF/index.html
In Grapevine and maybe 10 min from airport
It mentions the park like aspect of that hotel--maybe close to Grapevine Lake park itself...
Both of these are close to DFW airport and nexus of highways that would make continuing your journey fairly time-friendly...

Depending on when you come Grapevine/Southlake can be busy and some GPS systems might not have updated info re construction that has happened
WAZE app is one I find very useful--
If you don't have it might check it out...

If you are using points I can understand your desire to find Hilton
But in Hurst--which is about 15 min from DFW--there are three hotels that are about 5 min from Chisholm Park--very nice, good size, nice playground and green space...
This area is also safe--good range of restaurants--and easy access to 183/Airport Frwy into FTW and then 281

Glad to read you are NOT using I35 to go south into Hill Country
Lot of construction

Ps----Stephenville has nice place on the square for lunch--
Forget the name right now but kind of a "tea room"...home cooking...

But you might consider the new Chisholm Trail Parkway going through Glen Rose to Hico and catching 281 there
We went that way last week when we met my sister in Lampasas for lunch--she drove up from Spring Branch/Boerne area...

From Southlake/Grapevine area is about 4.5 hrs to Stonewall
So you might not need to stop for lunch depending on when you leave
2 yrs olds are often more likely to be satisfied with several snacks in the car if they can be entertained or sleep vs stopping for a meal
We ate lunch at BBQ restaurant in Lampasas which had good beef brisket--has an outdoor area (concrete not park like)
It was Mama Jean's on right side of 281--north of Hart's which gets more advertising maybe--but not as good reviews
Other places to stop/eat on the way are kind of iffy...
But if you get early start then should make it really before lunch...
Sunday not as busy--but 281 can have slower drivers and trucks and of course small towns often have speed traps
AND. If you and your wife enjoy BBQ, the best place in DFW is really in Grapevine or on 114 in Trophy Club/Roanoak called Meat U Anywhere--
Can be busy on Saturday night
Grapevine is smaller and parking valet when busy
But BBQ is usually melt in mouth tender...

Roanoke--just west of Southlake on 114--also has Babe's (local chain) which is well known for its chicken and other food served family style...
