Keep telling yourself that.

I hope you realize that car you get in every day is 1,000 more likely to injure you than any snake in any part of the world.

When you have a phobia it doesn’t matter. Venomous or not.. it’s terrifying and a deal breaker unfortunately

Honest answer, I live in town and so see small grass snakes in my yard. They are about the size of earth worms, no big deal. I have far more cute little green lizards. The big snakes are around the lakes and streams.

There are alot more bugs and snakes in the south than the north. For Example the Western Rattlesnake was the only venomous snake I grew up with. Texas has Water Moccasins, Coral Snakes etc in addition to rattlers.

Spiders aside Texas has many many more venomous spiders. Brown Recluse for example (stuff of nightmares lol). This is mostly because it's warm here, we don't get hard freezes, so yeah, there are just alot more bugs in the south.

At the OP: Jokes about "Public Servants", Bankers, and Lawyers aside, I've never seen a snake in Downtown.

Please seek treatment.

If you are turning down good job offers because you are afraid of seeing snakes in a highly urbanized metro area of 7 million people, your phobia is actively hindering your ability to live your life.

Just so you know, most normal people do not make life decisions based on whether they think they might see a non-venomous snake. Most people get a little sizzle down their spine when they unexpectedly see a snake; then they determine whether it's dangerous, and if it is, they go the long way around it.

As I have said on this forum many times before, since moving here I have seen more snakes here than ANYWHERE ELSE in my life, however, I am outdoors and on or near water a lot-- and I don't live in downtown. But, they are here. I think in heavily cemented areas you will be fine. I have seen some pretty huge spiders (size of my palm) as well. But again, only outside.

Despite there being way more bugs and snakes in general, I do not find nearly as many spiders or insects in my house as I did back in Oregon. The only explanation I can think of is slab foundations and brick siding. Without a crawl space spiders don't have a place to nest under your house. (Same for snakes.)

I don't think you'd find snakes in any city in the middle of a Downtown area. I have never personally seen any anywhere else here either. I'm sure you'll be fine.
