I guess I never realized you could only play outside 6 months out of the year in Texas . The summer months just take a little getting used to, but there is no need to stay inside(and no, your only option isn't sitting in a pool). Growing up my friends and I played outside practically year round, hot or cold and none of us ever had a pool.

Put a little fire ant killer out, and treat any mounds you see, and problem solved. Mosquitoes are a problems in a lot of places. I never got bit more than the three years I lived in MN.

Shhhh...don't tell everybody the truth...let them think that it's too hot to actually go outside down here from April to October. Leaves more of the good stuff for us!

You can all have it!

I wish I had not been told 12 years ago what a wonderful place Dallas was! I definately would have left all of it for you to enjoy Welcome the newcomers and let them taste your great summers and then ask them how they are enjoying it in August...... and I would like to see those kiddos with their helmets on their bikes

The truth is, "It is." It's safer to say May to Septmeber though for the really hot stuff. One really doesn't need to be out in the hottest part of the day. It's just too dangerous especially for those of us who don't do heat very well. When you're in the shade doing nothing and sweating, it's way too hot for my liking.

Ideal weather is what we're having now, 30s at night and no higher than 70 during the day. Enjoy it while you can; it's short lived.

Hehehehehehe, snicker

LOL!!! I remember growing up going barefoot all summer long and that included trips to the grocery store and walking across the blacktop. My kids go barefoot 99% of the time year round. Never had a problem w/ fire ants at our house or lake house, their grandparents, friends, etc. So they get a few once big deal. We have a pool and my kids would rather be jumping on the trampoline, in the fort or on the swing. Still in their swimsuit but not IN the water. We have HUGE 4th of July parties down at the lake and hardly ANYONE is EVER in the house (to use the bathroom or get something out of the oven to bring outside to eat). Same goes for all of the big 4th of July festivities all over the area (Garland's Star Spangled 4th). Six Flags is packed every day. We went in June two summers ago and it was an AWESOME day. Never broke a sweat and could not have had better weather. Rain was threatening the start of the day and I think that kept a lot of people away so we had hardly any waits in line. I've experienced far worse HOTTER weather in other places not in Texas than I've EVER had here in Texas from one corner to the next. Never was FORCED to stay inside either like what can happen on cold weather events. YIKES, feel for the poor souls that HAVE to work no matter the weather. Our business is one of those so on bad cold weather days (the once or twice a year we might get ice or snow) everyone still MUST come to work. Every company just like ours across the nation would be in the same boat. I'll take the heat over that bad weather anyday when one considers that you are REQUIRED to have your employees and trucks on the road no matter what. Thank ya very much

I feel really sorry for all those hispanic landscapers...who mow the Dallas lawns in July and August!!! But then that's how they make their livings!
- There are not many natives who mow their own lawn in Dallas! Hmm...wonder why?

Maybe if you live outside the city it is more bearable than within the city and all its concrete....

I really dislike the TX weather...but I have to admit that I found the TX people very very friendly! I have travelled all over the world...the friendliness of the native Texans really stands out

We lived 10 years in Texas....yes you get to play outside for 6 months (make sure the kids do not run around the lawns barefeet because they will be bitten by the fireants!!!...even with their shoes on!) and the other 6 months you live inside with A/C or swim in the pool (make sure to get a house with pool!and don't forget pest control ) where the mosquitos will bite you in the morning and in the evening! If you like 6 months pool, shopping, cinema, and indoor sports you will love Texas!

Good luck
Well, you didn't originally state you were from Colorado, just that you'd prefer blizzards over tornadoes. I prefer tornadoes over blizzards, for the reasons I stated. Wisconsin has a lot to offer, but I couldn't get past the cold, just like you couldn't get past the heat. Fortunately, all 50 states are still open

I also love listening to thunderstorms. Interestingly, you don't get them a lot of places.

I limit my outdoor activities in July and August, but I'm not really an outdoor person in any climate. Mosquitoes are bad here, but the flies in WI?! They're like those killer bees, only bigger and meaner!

There is no perfect place! One has to choose the place in regards of his/her priorities in life. Priorities in life keep changing (they are not the same when you are single, get married, have kids, your kids have grown up, become a grandparent, retire....).

Isn't that the truth? It really is amazing how priorities change with each phase in the thing we call life.
