We are relocating to Dallas and looking for a tennis and swim club and place to meet people. We will be living near (but not in) the Park Cities. Not interested in golf, but are open to a tennis/sports membership at a country club. Would prefer to stay under around $25k/$400 on initiation fees/dues. We are early 30s with an infant, so may qualify for some junior memberships. Brand new to the area without many connection yet and not looking for anywhere that is too stuffy or exclusive. If anyone is familiar, I grew up going to the Briar Club in Houston and am looking for a similar vibe.

How much more stuffy and exclusive can it get than a country club?

Lakewood CC is pretty laid back compare to DCC/ Brook Hollow / Northwood and considerably less expensive. I don’t know what their waitlist is like these days since their big remodel. Sounds like you’d be interested in a Social Membership, not full (golf).

You could also look into the Sports Club at the Four Seasons Las Colinas.

Hackberry Creek in Las Colinas is more relaxed and one of the less expensive in the area.

T-Bar-M, Royal Oaks Country Club. Both are in Dallas and IMO still within a relatively reasonable distance to Park Cities area. I like these options for you because they both have great tennis programs & pools. In fact, T Bar M doesn’t even have golf, so you have a more intimate setting focused only on tennis & social.

2 other options that come to mind due to great tennis and indoor courts are Brookhaven CC and Canyon Creek CC. These would be more of a drive, however. They are both owned by ClubCorp. They constantly run promotions & it’s possible you’d have little to no initiation fee. Your costs would be monthly dues + food + indoor courts + any drills you want to do (I’m sure you know how that works). They pretty much take anyone who can pay. You don’t need an invite, but you do have to list a couple “personal references.” (They didn’t even call mine). IMO, Brookhaven still has one of the best Juniors tennis programs in DFW & one of the best and most active tennis facilities in terms of picking up matches etc.

I think these four should be your starting points.

A lot of times, in clubs with both golf and tennis, the clubs tend to focus more on golf than tennis. That's the real advantage that T Bar M has.

What's a good golf country club? Something ritzy that rich people join.

But not too ritzy because I'm on a budget.
