Irving, Coppell, Carrollton etc have foundation and fracking issues so if that bothers you then avoid those areas. As far as older vs new, it depends upon location, lot size, schools, construction quality etc. A small old shack in Highland Park is usually many times higher in value than a new mass built McMansion in Allen. People who buy expensive old homes in good areas aren't crazy, usually more educated and well earning than McMansion crowd.

I'm not sure any of those places you can get a new home in the 280,000s now.
Probably more like $400,000 and up...
If you work in or close to coppell, then coppell or irving would be a good place.
Plano and Frisco are nice places to live too, but probably not much less, and then you add 30-60 min drive each way.
Calculate that in to your COL.
No one can tell you accurately which place will have better chances for appreciation.

Thank you all. I am planning to start search from Plano. Irving, though very appealing and convenient, is definitely lot more expensive.
