We have a security system installed in our home, a DSC system circa 2008. It was installed by an alarm company that is no longer in business.

We're having issues with one of our zones. In the past, a fault from a zone usually meant that a magnet had shifted a bit causing a break in the connection, but this time it seems we have a wiring problem. Most alarm companies I see want to install a brand new system, monitor your home, etc. Does anyone know of a good alarm company that just diagnoses and repairs current systems?

Have you talked with Smith Thompson? We have a DSC system from 2005 and we've been having an issue with zone 3 (windows) and we asked them if it was something they could look into when they were out doing something unrelated. The tech said it would be time consuming and probably a bit expensive to him have check each window because our house has soooo many windows, but I don't remember him immediately jumping to replacing the entire system. He told us we could go around to each window on our own and then call them back when we figured out which one was the problem window. Of course it could vary from system to system.

We actually got it taken care of today. McKinney Security Solutions.

I had previously already checked all windows and still couldn't figure it out, so we called them and they sent a guy over. Long story short, he couldn't find the problem window either, it appears that the wire that had a short or a break in it went to nothing, apparently. After 13 years since the house was built, wherever this line was run developed a short or something.

He disconnected that particular wire and now all windows in that zone are functioning again. Very strange situation, but got it handled. We checked every single window in the house which took about an hour, and all of them were functioning normally. No idea where the faulty wire goes.
