Is the traffic like LA or Orange County, CA
I really would appreciate your help. For those that have lived in SO CAL is the traffic really that bad in the DFW area? I hear people complain about the traffic but for those of us that are from Orange County we face dead stopped freeways nearly all the time.
I fully understand if the weather is rainy it will be slow but is it really that awful? What are your average commutes?

I was in LA during March and got to ride on your freeways in LA and TOC. We have very bad traffic too. Our lanes might be a tad bigger with less of them but it is very thick, especially on 75 and 635.
We got stuck in traffic trying to go from Hollywood to Anaheim... very bad. My husband was calm though about it all.. usually when he drives on 75 to Dallas, I don't like driving with him due to he is ROAD WARRIOR... he wasn't this time lol...
LA is definatly bigger than DFW, therefore more road with tons of cars. Dallas, there are pockets where it might not be bad and remember that the the ever growing burbs are going to have more cars going out those ways... your roads definatly reminded me of ours as far as thickness.

I don't find traffic all that bad here... DC area traffic is much worse. I haven't ever been to LA, so I can't compare that directly. Here there are so many ways to get between two points that it's pretty easy to avoid traffic other than rush hour. Even at rush hour the traffic slows down, but it still flows pretty well.

I would say rush hours are close to the same but unlike L.A and O.C, you can get around rather easily and fast during non rush hours and weekends.

It seems like people in California were having to buy houses very far from their jobs in order to be in a good area or an affordable area. In most cases you can buy a house closer to where you work here. There are good affordable areas all over. Don't think you need to buy a house 25 miles from your job because most often there are closer neighborhoods that are just as good.

I lived in LA prior to moving to Frisco which is a suburb of Dallas. There are freeways/tollways that get congested but it's not as bad as L.A. The 635 and 75 seem to be the worst during rush hour. There is a lot of streets and tollways being constructed which contribute to traffic but looking ahead when they are completed, it won't be bad.
I commute about 20 miles to Lewisville and takes me an average of 35 minutes and that's because of road construction in one section that backs up (The Colony). Again, once the construction is finished, it will probably take me 25 minutes.

I'm from L.A. (city of, Pico/Robertson area). The traffic here can be bad if you live in an outer suburb. The biggest difference between the traffic here and the traffic in Southern California is that in D/FW the traffic jams tend to be usually in one direction, whereas in Southern California, all directions get jammed up during rush hour.
It's impossible to say what the "average commute" is here. While not as large in terms of population, D/FW is very spread out. To sum it up, traffic here is not as bad as Southern California, but depending where you live and work it can be pretty unpleasant.
