Dallas could land major Uber expansion, thousands of jobs

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...thousands-jobs

Excerpts from the article

Quote:
Dallas is a leading contender for a major expansion by ride-hailing giant Uber that would transform the city into one of the tech company’s largest hubs outside San Francisco, company officials confirmed Thursday.

Uber has zeroed in on a site in Deep Ellum for an office that would employ several thousand workers, from engineers and finance executives to salespeople. Jobs would span Uber’s businesses, from delivering food to developing a new urban air taxi service.

Uber plans to make a decision by late August, after narrowing its list to fewer than a handful of cities, said spokesman Travis Considine. He declined to identify the other cities being considered.
If Uber chooses Dallas, it’s planning to move into the Epic, an 8-acre development on the eastern edge of downtown Dallas in Deep Ellum, Considine said. It is at Elm Street and Good-Latimer Expressway.

Uber's Dallas office could bring 3,000 jobs downtown, be company's biggest hub outside San Francisco

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...-san-francisco

From the article

Quote:
Uber could soon open a major office in Dallas and turn the city into its largest corporate hub outside of its San Francisco headquarters, according to a briefing for Dallas County leaders obtained by The Dallas Morning News.
Quote:
The transportation giant plans to create 3,000 jobs and pay employees an average salary of at least $100,000 at the new office, according to the briefing and a tax abatement request for the next Dallas County Commissioners Court meeting. The briefing says Uber has evaluated sites across the country and plans to move into two office buildings at The Epic, a development at the edge of Deep Ellum and downtown
.
Quote:
Uber would not confirm whether it has decided on Dallas.
"Uber is evaluating adding a significant number of jobs in Dallas and investing directly in the community," company spokesman Travis Considine said in a statement. "Our team is currently discussing the opportunity with state and local leaders, and we hope to make a decision by the fall."
Quote:
Uber would be one of the largest corporate expansions in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in at least the past decade. It would bring nearly as many new jobs as Toyota North America, which pledged to create at least 3,650 when it moved its headquarters from California to Plano. It would be more than the 1,300 jobs that Allstate pledged to create in Irving, the 1,200 new jobs Charles Schwab & Co. pledged to create in Westlake, the 1,000 new jobs software firm Active Network pledged to create in downtown Dallas and the 975 jobs pharmaceutical giant McKesson pledged to create in Irving.

They have likely already decided because I was interviewing for a job where it was clear that they had major plans for Dallas

Cool! Many sources are saying the same thing. This will be great for Dallas! Finally a company (potentially) choosing Dallas over the Northern Suburbs

4,000 jobs is not an insignificant number for a tech company. I’m surprised that they didn’t choose a site on the East Coast. Good for Dallas!

You should probably delete this post if they're still considering you for the position and you're still interested.

Um 4000 jobs is a significant amount of jobs. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Uber is building its second largest campus in Dallas considering the company is already highly invested in the DFW market. Examples include Fort Worth based Bell Hellicopter designing uber taxi helicopter and the metro being one of only two testing sites for the flying taxi.

Default Dont put too much stake on this

Uber is in financial trouble right now and they are losing BILLIONS of dollars. Yes, Billions!! The company is in desperation mode. They have been spending a lot of time in the Phoenix also. They think that they have this locked up. Uber leadership has ties to Phoenix as well. Anyway Uber is in deep trouble so maybe Deep Ellum might fit the them better.
