As a Plano native, I've gotta say that the more desirable part of Plano (anything west of 75) is pretty much full. Anyways, that area that you cite (Ohio and McDermott) recently became part of Plano and is a VERY desirable area. I also suggest looking around Spring Creek between the Dallas North Tollway and 121 in King's Ridge and Shoal Creek. Anything north of Parker Road along the DNT is pretty much the last place for new home construction in Plano.

Re:
Just a heads up - the city boundaries and the school district boundaries have little relation with each other.
Ohio and McDermott is in the Frisco ISD, not the Plano ISD. Similarly, King's Ridge (west of the Tollway) is mostly in the Lewisville ISD.
In West Plano and in the Plano ISD, for new construction I can only think of a few places. - There are a dozen or so spec houses and a couple of lots left in Preston Lakes (Parker/Ohio).
- There's a development called Avignon Windhaven (between Tollway and Preston, just south of Spring Creek) that has more new-build availability.
- If you're OK living in the city of Dallas, David Weekley has a small development near Frankford/Hillcrest (in the Plano ISD).
If you're working in the Telecom Corridor, you should seriously consider just getting a house over there. Any part of Richardson located in Collin County is zoned to the Plano ISD. You can also score a new home in large parts of east Plano and Parker. The eastern Plano schools have a mixed reputation, but with all the new money (and new school construction) moving into that area, that will probably change.

haha, "mixed" reputation...
New construction is West Plano is really hard to find. The only two projects I can think of are the one you mentioned.
If you don't mind living on the East Side, close to work, there is new construction going on in Murphy. I think a good chunk of Murphy is zoned for Plano schools, and a lot of those houses are really pretty (and you get a sizeable lot, to boot!)

If you really just want a brand new home, the choice would be very limited in West Plano. Pretty much Grand in Regency Park in Frisco ISD, have a limited number of homes from mid 350s.
Then there are the zero lot line homes in Frisco ISD as well at Independence and Ridgeview in the mid 200s by Ryland.
There are also some new townhomes at Parker and Ohio in Plano ISD from the low 300s.
Also at Spring Creek and Midway in the city of Plano but Lewisville ISD, Sotherby has some homes from the mid 400s.
Lastly there is at Hedgecox and Coit in Deerfield homes by Monterey from the 500S. Also Frisco ISD.
In east Plano, in Plano ISD, at Parker and Spring Creek from the mid 300s... I think they are almost sold out.
There are a lot of nice communities like Breckenridge very close to the telecom corridor in Plano ISD. You will get more for your money there. If you look at pre-owned may be just a few years old, Rolling Ridge in Murphy has a lot of good deals. That's Plano ISD as well.

Look in Frisco
If I was you I would look in either frisco or castle hills. It will be a lot easier to find what you are looking for.

Normandy Estates -New construction in West Plano
There are some new communities being developed in West Plano! Normandy Estates will be gated -75 acres off Tennyson/Midway & Spring Creek. I used to see this sleepy piece of property behind CountryWide, off Corporate Drive. People fishing off the small lake! Now it will have 139 residences with Estate lots in PLANO ISD, Villa lots & Townhomes. Peckham Custom Builders, Zachary, Hawkin-Wellwood, Alford & Mark Smith Cust Homes are the luxury builders. The streets are paved and building begins in late September. There are hilly nature trails, the large pond will have a fishing dock and a community center with fitness, out-door living & pool. Sounds nice-only 10 minutes from Shops of Legacy or Presby!
***Also off Windhaven in West Plano-Grand Homes has a new development. Normandy's Estate lots are in Plano ISD!

ytwar, those new homes that you saw in front of McDermott and Ohio will go to good school eventhough it's Frisco ISD. So you should not worry.

Actually, you can get new homes with (relatively) larger lots in Murphy - a lot of which is in the Plano school district. With a local bond passing, by 2011, you will have elementary / middle and hi schools in Murphy. Keep in mind that Murphy is a very small place - so you will be close to all schools.
Frisco ISD and Allen ISD are as good as Plano ISD.
