Listen, I am an attorney, and cannot even come close to living in those areas. I am at 150k year, and still feel poor driving in both cities.

So what do they do??

$150K is good money, but it certainly doesn't come close to the price of admission for the Park Cities. Our household is above that level, and I couldn't for a second afford to contemplate that move. But then again, we focus a large portion of our income on investing. I personally would rather live in a decent place that doesn't have all the wow factor and retire at 50 than have bling-bling and work until I die.

I've heard people have either lived there for a long time and couldn't afford to "move" there now if they weren't already in place, they have old money, or they're executive types making the "big bucks".

Highland Park is old money. Many of them don't need to be doing (as in an 8-5 job) anything to be living there.

There are a ton of MDs in there that either own their own practices or are big shots at some of the local hospitals. Or both.

Some are old money, heirs to big oil fortunes. There are a lot of self made people there too. There are people who started businesses that became successful, presidents and CEO's of large companies.

Financial people, partners in bigger law firms, MD's, CEO's and other top executives of big corporations, business owners, entertainers, sports stars/owners, trust fund children of these people.

One attorney I know bought a tiny cottage in UP and then a few years later was able to upgrade to a bigger house in UP with the arrival of the 2nd child. They had a lot of appreciation on the cottage.

A lot of peope transferred from the northeast move into UP and HP. These are high level big shots.

For the most part old money, Doctors and Lawyers at the top of their profession, CEO's and self made millionaires. Does anyone wonder why even professional athletes never move to HP. To my knowledge Mike Modano is the only recent pro that lives there.
