Just wondering....I know it's all 10-digit calling, but is this long distance?

Shouldn't be, but I'll let someone else speak to that as I know calling Rockwall and McKinney from some areas in Dallas are long-distance.

But you will have to use 10 digits for any call you make, even from your house in Southlake to your neighbors house. There are several area codes in the area and it used to be somewhat geographical but I believe that plan has been tossed out the window. Off the top of my head there's at least 6 area codes I call on a regular basis and none are long-distance, except for the random McKinney call.

It depends...some of the numbers in Southlake are and some aren't...

I can call the City of Southlake #s that use the 481 prefix without adding a 1 at the beginning...but calling the Southlake post office requires a 1, thus making it a long distance call...

If you get a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) such as Vonage, you can call anywhere in the country and several countries in europe for a flat fee of only $25 a month. And even if you move out of state or the country, you can still keep the number and call for that same amount...

Nsummer,

Good point. I have a friend that kept her Vonage service for about a year after they moved here.

Thanks, Naima. Good idea, I'll have to check that out if we move to Southlake.

Or just get a package through Verizon. I have their phone service (and AWESOME Fios TV service) and the phone has 5000 minutes of long distance (anywhere in US, including 214/972 area codes) included for under $75 a month.

if you are using cell phone the coverage area is different and I think the county has something to do with it
some parts of Southlake are in Denton county and some are in Tarrant
