Get a map of counties and do some research into the counties and their cities.

You are asking for too much info from us here.

The Internet is a wonderful tool.

Are you looking to be an hour from downtown Dallas, DFW airport, Northern Dallas, etc.? All of these places are quite far from each other and can be over an hour from each other in traffic. Ft Worth can be anywhere from 30-1 hr+ from Dallas.

I'm befuddled thinking of any nearish small town/county and hour from Dallas (any parts of Dallas) that would also have anything close to 'upscale'. I'm assuming that commutes and schools are out of the picture.

Maybe some of the East Counties with all of the lakehouses - there are some nice lakehouses. Henderson County is 78K. A small town outside of Athens (like Gun Barrel City). Thats about an hour to downtown Dallas.

Or Granbury is cute - about 7.5K and the entire county is only about 51K. Thats about 1.5 hour to downtown Dallas - less to DFW/Ft. Worth.

I have enjoyed living in my rural area and just don't want to be close to a big city or lots of traffic. Commuting nor schools are a concern for us.

Thank you for your suggestions.

That’s our plan just trying to narrow down our driving tour.

A few general areas I might suggest that you check out:

1. Argyle - Maybe a little more developed than what you are looking for, but generally big lots (1-10
Acres, lots of horse properties) and pretty upscale relatively. Doesn’t meet the county population requirement (I think it is Denton County) but a nice area.

2. Glen Rose - Some relatively more attractive scenery IMO compared to most of DFW but a pretty nice little town in a small county.

3. Granbury - Probably could lump in with Glen Rose. Granbury is a little bigger.

4. McClendon-Chisholm- Pretty rural but with nice properties. Doesn’t meet the county population requirements (Rockwall) but has a rural feel.

Last suggestion would be somewhere in Parker County outside of Weatherford.

Best of luck to you in your search.

Why do you want to move to Dallas? I'm actually curious why if you aren't from here and don't need to for work. All of these small towns will be pretty insular. The surrounding scenery isn't that nice - but I agree that close to Glenn Rose/Granbury is the nicest. By the eastern lakes, there is decent greenery. Some areas way west of Ft Worth are nice (but that would be 2 hours probably to Dallas).

Maybe Stephenville? Its very cowboy - but nice.

But any of those Western county areas would require a lot of traffic to get to Dallas proper - if that was required on a regular basis.
