Default Moving to Cedar Hill

I will be moving to Cedar Hill for my work within the next 3 weeks...I'm looking for suggestions on where to live. I'm in my mid twenty's and looking at both possibilities of living close to Cedar Hill or living in the downtown area and dealing with the commute to work everyday.

Looking for suggestions on what my best options would be and how long the commute from downtown to CH would end up being?

25 to 30 minutes from Downtown to Cedar Hill. It's cheaper to live in Cedar Hill and drive to the City to play on the weekends, rather than the other way around. Depends on your price range for housing. Will you be buying or renting? What's your price range?

It all depends, if I was to live in CH i would prolly end up buying but if i decided to live in the city i would rent b/c of the higher prices. Looking at 160k to buy or 800-900 to rent.

If you live in DFW check out both areas. If I had to make the choice I'd live close to work and use the money I save on gas to have fun and save for retirement. Some good areas to look into are Sleepy Hollow, Lake Ridge, and Bent Creek. You'll have to find a bargain or foreclosure to get in those areas. Bent creek Probably is closer to your price range. It's right by an outdoor mall that just opened in March. As far as Dallas goes. I'd look at Camden farmers market, Broadstone Ambrose or getting roommates so you can afford to live in uptown or rent in Lakewood. Try craigslist. Definitely visit both places. Dallas is awesome for eating and entertainment, bad for price and for you the commute. Cedar Hill is pretty it's A hill (hence the name) and home to Cedar Hill state park, with joe pool lake. It's cheaper to live there and you'd have more space. The cons for Cedar hill are: Poor air quality, some of the older sections have crime issues(although it's not that bad just stay away from highlands, the planets and any place that has older apartments and duplexes.) and its a suburb with all the strip malls and lack of culture that entails.

Good luck!

With the way gas prices are, and the lack of public transportation, its probably better to look in Uptown Dallas for a nice condo than make the commute every day. Its 25 minutes without traffic, but with it takes my wife about 45-50 minutes every morning.

Well, do you want to build equity for yourself or your landlord? Right now the market is on sale. There are homes in Cedar Hill that you can get for $38 p/sq. ft. and lots of foreclosures - it just depends on where you want to live within the community. Currently, there are 217 homes in CH within your price point. How long do you plan to live in this home? Is it just you now? Do you think school systems would be a consideration while in this home? For under this price point, you can get more than 3,200 sq. ft. with buyer paying most closing costs.

Are you single or do you have a family. Is having a active social life important to you. Cedar Hill would be more for a person who has a young family or prefers the quite surburban life. The downtown area is were you want to be if your single and have a active social life.
