Post Relocating near Farmers Branch

My husband will be transfering to an office in Farmers-Branch.
We are looking for a great neighbourhood for our family, which is mixed preferlably 10 or 20 miles within Farmers Branch. A community that is family oriented. We have three children (3.5 yrs 2.3yrs and 7 months). So we will be looking for a good Pre-k soon. With the way the housing market is, we probably can get a good home for about 200K.

Any infor is wellcome since we live in a big city (Bangkok, Thailand) moving to a smaller city.

I would take a good look at Carrollton. It should fit your needs perfectly.

Yes I agree that Carrollton is a good choice. May be you want to add Plano and Frisco to your list. Farmers Branch itself, Richardson may be an option depending on your housing needs.

Plano and Fisco make no sense -- why live that far out and drive that far--
Grapevine is close and had a great family atmosphere--Coppell is probably more expensive but there are some nice neighborhoods in north Euless that are in GCISD--that area is adding some nice retail and has lots of other aspects for young families--active churches, parks, youth sports

Thanks guys. I looked at houses for sale in all the suggested locations and it seems like I can get a 4 bdrms 3 baths house for less than 200K. I do not mind a house that needs alittle bit of work. Although location is my first priority I do care more about good Pre-k and K schools.

At what age do kids get accepted for Pre-k or K schools. Do they test them if they are younger. I am asking because my 3.5yr old is in Pre-k and way ahead of kids his age. The daycares here are structured in away that a child is encouraged to learn as they play. I would hate to have him not go to school because he is considered too young.

Public school pre-K you must be 4 by Sept. 1st. Children have to qualify for public school pre-k. Language and or income are major qualifiers. However if a child is from a military or homeless situation then they may also qualify.

As of for private...most daycares provide programs for 3 and 4 year olds. There are a ton of private situations. You just have to research. Montessori, church pre-schools, and daycares all offer programs. It is what best meets your child's needs.

Thank you Loves2Read.

I have been looking for houses in Rowlett. They seem cheap compared to other areas. Can somebody please tell me why.

Rowlett is a very nice area to live in. The proximity to lake Ray Hubbard is just a little extra bonus.

I guess the prices are little lower because you are a little further out from downtown. Rowlett is about to run out of land so the prices will start going up on real estate once the new construction is exhausted and once the new tollway known as the GBTP (George Bush Turnpike) aka 190 is finished which is expected within 3-5 years.

Rowlett is "out there" in terms of Dallas, and the area surrounding it is not particularly the best of Dallas (sorry, Garland). Plus, the commute to Farmers Branch would be pretty horrible.

I'd check out Coppell. Schools are very good. Some housing is quite high. But, there are affordable houses there too.
