I have one main concern! I have been hearing that Texas is not so diverse, although the people are friendly they are not use to diverse cultures. My husband and I are both in the late twenties, and we are Muslim. I've been born and raised here, have a college degree and the whole nine yards. Currently I have a good accounting job at a nice company, I do wear just the scarf on my head for religious purposes at work with the regular business casual attire.
I need yourHONEST opinion in answering three questions: (1) If I move there do you think I'll have a difficult time being hired because of the way I look (wearing the scarf & being different)? (2) Does anyone know any good hiring contacts for accounting jobs or what is the best way to go about searching for jobs? (3)What do you think my chances are (out of ten) of being successful in finding a job and meeting great peopel! Should I search for jobs and find one first or move there first
Please advise....
Thank you,
ZR

I don't see a problem with it. I live in Grand Prairie and I see muslim women shopping at the local walmart. A few even work there. my brother and sister in law lives in richardson and they have a neighbor who is muslim. they didn't even know it till the folks came visiting. they dressed up for their parents and then went back to dressing liberally and there is a lot of that as well.
i say hello whenever i can.

You'll be fine here. If it was 25 years ago, then I would warn you but things have changed greatly around here. Too many cultures are moving here...they HAD to change. Blessing to you

Hi I just wanted to welcome you to Texas ^_^
I've been raised in the Dallas/ FortWorth area and I just wanted to say
that I think you and your family will be fine. There is a large muslim community
in the area so you won't have to worry and in fact Texas can be diverse as it
can get. Many Muslim women are hired based on their resume rather than their
headscarf. However there are some places which have this issue over the headscarf
but not many. I've been away for the past 2 years so I'm not sure if this has
changed or not and I'm finishing up high school but my mom used to work so I know
what your worries might be. I'm sorry I don't know any good contacts for hiring.
Hope it helped ^_^
Take care and best wishes
