GOSH, I should have called you. I SOOO needed a date for that as I was drinking alone. Well, the kids were drinking but not margarita's. My oldest wants to MOVE to Lakewood. She is trying to talk her dad into it. Like THAT is going to happen, he ain't moving for nothing.
I'm just glad I'm IN TEXAS right now. At least we DO have a/c for when it gets hot. Those people up in the northeast right now are baking from the heat wave they have. Meanwhile the highs this week here in DALLAS, TEXAS are going to be 90 degrees . I'll take that thank you. Not only do we have a/d to help but we have LOTS more open green spaces and trees and less concrete than NYC to help w/ the heat and cool things down.

Isn't NYC and east coast 90 degree too? Or do they not have AC's? I've heard older buildings have no Central AC! Eeekk!

High in most of the Northeast has been around 97 and up the last few days and expected to stay high for a few days. Nope, not everyone up there has a/c. All that concrete and big buildings in the way. NO THANKS

really? So where do all the northeasterners go for summer? Europe? Fl is too hot and humid too...
I did remember a friend of mine who lives in a building in NYC saying most don't have central AC so you sweat like a pig. You use a fan and portable AC to get by on the hot days.

The national news this morning made a big deal about the temperature in New York City. At 6 p.m. eastern time, the temperature there was 90 with 50% humidity and a 69 dew point.
Dallas at 6 p.m. is 90 degrees, 40% humidity, and a 63 dew point.
Yes, right now Dallas is better but it's cooler today than yesterday since we had a front come through. New York is having a heat wave and record breaking temps, so the difference isn't that great since we're having the norm, kind of, and they're not.
Of course, you didn't specify where on the east coast, so I'm sure there are other cities right now in this heat wave that are much hotter than NYC.
"expected to stay high FOR A FEW DAYS" is the key to the heat from momof2. They get cool downs and ours are so slight, they're hardly even noticeable.

I guess it is a matter of what you like or don't like. I have been in CA for 20+ yrs and I hate when it hits 6 p.m. most of the year you need a jacket. When I was in Dallas during Sept. I loved how I came outside at 9 p.m. and it was just nice and toasty and I did not need a jacket. It's just something about lazy warm summer nights I just love. I had a friend come to CA back in the 80's and to this day she still makes a joke about not getting caught after 6 pm without a jacket.
I would definitely be one of those that would adjust easily to the heat. May not like it all the time but I could deal with it. Now on the other hand can't stand being cold.

How soon can we move?
Both our grown kids and their spouses live in Texas, and we can't wait to move there to be closer to them. They moved because of the ridiculous housing prices in CA. In Texas they were able to afford a nice house and start a family. Sure, we will miss the beautiful beaches, mountains, and climate - but being close to our kids is way more important. From what I've read in these posts, Texas has a lot to offer as well.

Texas has these great features but you may have to drive 800 or so miles to find them. They're just not all in the same spot.

Needed a jacket? Well, at the most a hoodie, but that's it. And that's if you're on the coast, go 20 miles inland, it's plenty warm. Believe me, go to Inland Empire in Sept or valleys in SD, OC, LA you won't need a jacket either. Cold... if you say 60 degrees is cold, SoCal beach areas are not for you.
