We live in a large masterplanned community (Cinco Ranch) with excellent schools in our neighborhood. We would be looking for the same up there. Best schools is the metro area is top priority. I am a teacher and will eventually want to work in the district we live in. We want to buy a house that is less than 5-7 years old. Access to shopping and restaurants. Greenspace and trees. I would love for my husband to have less than a 20-30 minute commute one way as he is now in the 45-90 minute range depending on where he is driving and time he leaves.
Ideas? |

I would go with Frisco or Decatur. Both VERY close to Denton and have excellent schools. Both school districts are growing EXTREMELY FAST, wso they are hiring teachers all the time. There are MANY new subdivisions and masterplanned communities like what you live in now in both places that even have schools inside the neighborhood. Frisco is a suburb of Dallas and Decatur is a suburb of Fort Worth. Both of these places are very family-oriented and most of the people moving to Decatur & Frisco are middle-aged people who work in Dallas & Fort Worth. As far as shopping, they both have a TON. Frisco has every store you can think of and StoneBriar Mall. Decatur has A LOT of stores and a TON more on the way. There is a huge mall/shopping center going up in Decatur at 380/287 intersection that is suppose to have a ton of stores. As far as commute to Denton, it would be about 25 min. to Denton from Frisco and would be going the opposite direction of traffic since most people are heading to Dallas. From Decatur, it would be a 20 min. drive to Denton. There is traffic on 380 heading east from Decatur in the morning, but it moves very fast and its a straight shot. I work in Downtown Dallas and live in Decatur, so I go right through Denton everyday on my way to work. It usually takes me 45-50 min. to get to work in Downtown Dallas w/ traffic. Hope this helps!

The denton area also has some new subdivisions with schools in them. Savannah and Providence are on HWY 380 going towards McKinney, Pecan Creek is on the south side of Denton, and Lantana is in/near Bartonville, about 15-20 min from Denton. The district is growing, having opened new schools every year for the past several years, with a new Middle and possibly a new elementary school opening this fall. On HWY 380 towards McKinney, there's access to the greenbelt trail that connects Lake Ray Roberts to Lake Lewisville. Here's some info on that:
