1 Bedrooms $600 and Under North Dallas Area for Rent
Hey I am and African American Male 30 relocating to Dallas TX. Wanting to find a great apartment complex that anyone can suggest (not forrent.com or rent.com) that I can find an 1 bedroom apartment for $600 or less a month. Any suggestions would help.
I want to be limited to the North Dallas Area only.
1 Bedroom thats at max $600 a month. (Renting)
Near major highways to get to the airport and shopping (i.e. malls, groceries, barber shops etc).
Also, tell me more about the Lake Highlands, The Village and Far North areas. I here they are pretty good. Again, any apartment complex suggestions would be helpful (its just way too many on rent.com and forrent.com to search through).
Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you could find some apt. for that rate;however, I'm not so sure in the North Dallas area. I'd be leary of any apt. at that rate in today's market. I think you are more likely to find something in quality range around the late 700 and 800 range.

$600/month for a 1 bedroom is going to be low for a "great" apartment complex. Maybe for a place that takes Section 8 you can find that kind of rent, but then you most likely will be in a less than great complex.

totally agree...thus why I said probably won't find any place for that rate. 7-8 hundred is even a little scary.

North Dallas is pretty broad term, Do you have a more specific area in mind? Like others have said under $600/mo will almost definitely limit you to high crime areas. You might try The Indigo on Forest, its at the intersection of Forest and Audelia. There is also The Dunes of Richland on Walnut and Audelia. It's pretty safe during the day.

Despite the negative attitudes of some posters around here, there are one bedroom apartments in well-managed, well-kept properties in perfectly decent areas within your price range. They won't be the largest apartments, or be in the "glitz/glam/i'm-all-that" neighborhoods, but you don't have to be a section 8 candidate or live in a delapidated building with management who doesn't care either (but there are plenty of those to be found- so don't sign anything until you actually view the place in person). Not knowing what criteria is important for you, I'd suggest using a professional apartment finder. There are several in this area (they are paid by the apartment complexes - the service is free to you). They maintain up-to-date lists of the specials by complex and are usually familiar with the complexes they work with. The more specific you can be with them about what you want, (how far you are willing to commute, size, ammenities, stable management, etc) the more likely they are to find it for you. Beats the heck out of calling a gazillion places and looking online for advice, only to find out it is nothing at all like you thought - or have been led to believe. And at this time of year, you might want also what to check craiglist for room-mates or sublets (students leaving for the summer). Hope you find a place you like and Welcome to Dallas!

Yet you didn't name even one of them. Priced apartments lately? Or perhaps our definitions of "perfectly decent" do not coincide.

You can get a small one bedroom or efficiency for about $600 at some of the complexes in the Village.

Perhaps our ideas of "perfectly decent" do not match, and yes, I have priced apartments lately. In the OP's price range, a decent complex (would pass FHA/HUD type inspections), in a decent area (low crime), the apartment will be small, or perhaps further out (or closer in) than where you or I would choose to be, and it certainly won't have stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors and marble counter tops. I did not post the names of complexes because I don't know specifically what the OP is looking for. I suggested using a using an apartment locator since they have up-to-date resources on multiple complexes, including their current specials. They would be better suited to help the OP find, specifically, what he is looking for. Maybe he doesn't care if the place is a bit ragged around the edges as long as it's a roof over his head and puts him within walking distance of work. Or maybe he doesn't mind driving forty five minutes in rush hour traffic if it means he can get into a brand new complex on the ground floor, or perhaps he doesn't mind a 70 unit complex that doesn't have gated access, a swimming pool and all the latest exercise equipment. If the OP wants 1,000 square feet, or all-the-bells-and-whistles, or has to live in Uptown or Addison -you are right - he'd need to (at bare minimum) double his budget. But, if he doesn't mind a smaller complex, or living in the burbs, or in a place that's 25 years old, or some combination thereof - those do exist, even if they are not the most common, whether or not they are or aren't what you or I would choose if we had options. My point is that a place need not be a fire hazard, rat infested, or a crime zone to fall into that price range. I'm sorry if I offended your (or anyone else's) sensibilities. The same as you, I offered a suggestion. Have a great day!
