Default Plano, Farmers Branch, Carrolton?

We are doing some serious research into the Dallas area. My husband is looking for another job and we have been told we should look at Plano, Farmers Branch and Carrolton. I will be moving from Western NY and am looking for someplace with a Fabulous education system, parks and rec, housing under $300K (2500sqft +), in a great area... which would you choose? Right now I live in a very family oriented town, have a 2000sqft home (plus huge finished walk out basement) assessed at $190K but my taxes are through the roof for the price ($7K)... which town would YOU choose and WHY? Thanks ahead of time for your response...

Of the 3 cities you mention, Plano has the best education system. Our tax rate is not that low either. We don't have the state income tax but our tax rate ranges from 2.1 to 2.7. Where will your husband be commuting to? May be we can suggest other areas too.

Commute is not an issue- mostly working from home. So, we are mainly concerned with the area we will be living in. Since I don't know the area well I am just curious, of the three, which is the best choice... if you think another area is better, please share....

Plano, no question. You might also look at Frisco which is full of families.

Carrollton- Farmers Branch has a great school district. One of the best G/T depts. in the state. Several of the schools are IB and there are academies at the HS level. Carrollton would be my choice of living over FB but that is just my preference. I have lived in both. LISD in the Carrollton area offers some wonderful schools as well. Plano is not the only place for families.

I know I'm probably biased a bit since I live in Plano. Obviously, we chose to live here. But I just say ditto to these other posters. Overall, of these three, I would choose Plano.

SKBS -

I'd go to Plano of those. If I widened the scope, I'd go to Frisco. You can go to great schools dot net and compare the schools there.

Happy to help,
T Hayley

No contest, Plano. Compare Plano to maybe Richardson, Mckinney and Fricso, but it's an entire cut above the other two places you mentioned.

Of those two however, I like the part of Carrolton that touches West Plano. THe only problem is the schools are not consistent in Carrolton.
