that is a totally irrational comment to make and while some things have become less expensive, some things are MORE expensive even taking into account the price of money in different decades...making a comment such as that which illustrates lack of thought pretty much decimates your rant...

Prove it. Prove it. Prove it.

Facts are rational, assertions are irrational.

flat out dollars and cents---
I pay more for a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, a movie ticket, tires for my car, a haircut, a pair of shoes made of real leather, a head of lettuce, a dozen eggs,
a visit to the doctor--especially if I don't have a co-pay plan, a filling in my tooth, and/or a pair of eyeglasses than I did 30 years ago

I would never have dreamed of paying more for a car than I did for our first house--but we came pretty close with the car we bought at Christmas...

It is way more expensive to go to college at a state school than the hourly rate I paid at my small private college more than 30 years ago...
textbooks are out the kazoo
try buying land on waterfront property in any of the metro areas around TX--
river front land is EXPENSIVE in San Marcos, New Braunfels, Seguin, Wimberley, and Lakefront around the Highland Lakes and Travis is multiples of what it was even a decade ago...

and since you present no evidence--your statement is actually an assertion as well and according to your own mantra is irrational...

I think austinnetx missed Econ 101 and 'economies of scale'.

Does a person in your field of work make the same amount of money with the same experience as 30 years ago? Are you comparing apples with apples?

You have to adjust prices AND income for inflation. Some goods and services are cheaper today, others are more expensive. A statement that overall items are cheaper or more expensive is a foolish one.

The average price of a vehicle has steadily climbed over the last few decades...

The overall savings rate has steadily dropped over the last few decades also - which does take overall expenses and overall income into consideration... so on average, Aceplace is correct. Of couse you're going to dispute this also, because one can argue with any statistic. I'm done with this debate.

The average features of a vehicle have increased as well. So again, we're not comparing apples to apples.
