I like it when people respond to old threads! I've just looked at a bunch of old revived threads and gotten all sorts of great info. from them. I'm sure it doesn't apply to the OP anymore, but there are plenty of other people with similar questions it can help!

I thought being affluent was about total LIQUID net worth, not annual income nor the size/price of your home.
LOL

Definitely, but it's great that people think they are affluent when they are looking at a $400K home--keeps dissent down.
On the other hand, maybe they are multi-millionaires and very thrifty on their home choice!

I'm glad you share my thoughts. Forums are rarely only informative to the OP - keep it alive for others searching.

whoa!
with the median income in the US at around 50K, I would think that a 400K house buyer is affluent.
or maybe im broker than i thought

from dallas morning news News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News
"In Lancaster, just south of Dallas, the number of black households in the upper-income ranks – $75,000 in 1989 and $100,000 in 1999 – increased more than eightfold during the 1990s from 40 to 338 households.
In the eastern suburb of Rowlett, where the overall median income in 1999 was almost $71,000, the median income for black households was about $72,000.
In Farmers Branch, north of Dallas, the 1990 census reported that no black households made more than $75,000. According to the 2000 census, even though the city's black population is small, nearly 1 out of 4 black households topped $100,000.
In Forest Hill, southeast of Fort Worth, 59 percent of all households are black. Yet blacks make up 84 percent of households earning more than $100,000 a year.
Those moving to area suburbs – both from outside or within the D-FW area – have fatter paychecks and higher education levels and tend to be younger families, Dr. Logan said.
The Dallas area is a good place to study the rise of black affluence, Dr. Logan said. "There's a much stronger relationship of high-income movement in the suburbs."
wealthy blacks are spread out all over the metro, though their is a higher conc of them in southern burbs
