(As I have other sarcasm drenched posts by non-trolls, in other threads, who also happen to dislike Dallas.) Perhaps because I'm not out baking in these temps, I'm not leathery skinned enough to ignore the types who get riled up when someone dares speak any ill towards this great Republic of Texas.
My particular relationship with Dallas is not unlike a marriage. I feel like filing for separation from June-September. Though I'm not going to divorce the whole city simply because I loathe the summers and wish autumn came much sooner. The ridiculous suggestion I've witnessed in many threads that people who gritch about our summers and aren't shy to voice their painfully low tolerances to it--the ones that dare post to forum designed for the discussion of city topics, whether good or bad--is that they should just leave this city altogether! I choose to stay in Dallas, my native city, because this is my HOME of 33 years. I admire anyone who keeps an active lifestyle during our summers but often find that us oddballs are awfully quick to be schooled on how hot is isn't.
So the Oh, it's not so bad here in the summer talk just gets as tiresome to someone who cannot abide the heat and has to defend their sensitivity to it, as it must be to the people who have grown accustomed and think we should suck it up. And no, I have yet to "get used to it" but I do keep waiting! I just don't understand how some folks take it so personally that a fraction of Dallas' residents think this city's weather is not ideal. Or that they feel irritated when they choose to defend temps that are to some people really quite stifling. Troll or not, people can have the opinion that Dallas is ugly, brown and h-o-t. Even when we have a 'mild' summer, it's still hotter than Hades to *me*. So all the hair-splitting about how high/low our humidity is or how many days it's 100+ degrees doesn't really make a difference to true heat heaters, lol. At some point hot is hot is hot is hot and however it's spun, oh yeah um.... it's still hot.
For everyone who is sick of reading complaints about the heat, and I know the Dallas weather threads must get super old especially to long tierm members who field some truly odd TX climate/insects/accent queries, I am just as sick of hearing that I should try Minnesota and shovel snow for 30 years, how if I can't stand the heat I gotta get out of the kitchen, how I'd commit suicide if I had to endure a climate as truly horrific and gray as the NW, or even how I'm not a "real" Dallassite. And lots of other snarky comments from friends and family and perfect strangers.... just because I prefer to hibernate until Fall and not live a life slathered in SPF 4000.
It's so nice to encounter the members here who sympathize with differences in tolerance and don't wildly defend these temps. And who understand it really is 'to each his own'. I already feel like such a freak as a native who wilts when it gets over 85.

Brilliant post. Very well said. I think calling people names (like troll) is an extremely poor way to defend a region. If the only way you can defend a position (whatever that is) is to attack the person who disagrees with you, then it's almost like you are admitting defeat.
I realize that there isn't any real way to 'defend' weather. There's nothing you can say to make heat go away. Reminding people that others have to deal with extreme cold is no consolation. Neither is expecting people to forget their obligations and move away tomorrow. I feel that I have just as much right to express my dissatisfaction with Dallas and the weather as someone has to express their satisfaction with it. I saw no instructions when I signed up for this website that said I was required to only write good things about Dallas.
So I btch about the heat. Big deal. I don't know anyone who doesn't. If that makes me a troll then I bet 99% of north Texans are also trolls. Especially all my neighbors with the dried up yellow lawns or the kids playing in the neighborhood at sunset swatting mosquitos after that brief shower we had yesterday.

Why don't you call the police. Or break out your gun and shoot your monitor. That would end all your problems.

Personal attacks are indeed an extremely poor way to defend a region (or anything else for that matter). Perhaps we can all make our community a better place by looking in the mirror first and foremost.

But unfortunately the mosquitos were out in full force at sunset. Let's face it as long as you live in Dallas there is always going to be a legitimate reason to complain unless of course you have nothing better to do than to sit on your ass all day working on your 944th post about how everything in Dallas from the dead grass to the cockroaches are superior to the dead grass and cockroaches in some other city.

I'm not trying to defend a region. I am exposing it for the hell hole that it is on a national level. Deal with it.

Then it is obvious that you have not seen much of the rest of the country. There are PLENTY of places in this country that make this area look like paradise.
None of us have ever said it is NOT hot here. Just that we can cope w/ it easily and KNOW firsthand there are FAR worse places in terms of heat and humidity in this vast land of ours of the U.S. of A.

However, none of the hot places listed have millions in population and people from other parts of the country asking about moving there. Unfortunately, many of the posters here try to post a rosey picture without mentioning the weather which definitely affects your lifestyle for months a year. Much more so than many other areas.

Yes, I agree. I have never tried to portray a pretty picture when it comes to Texas summers. I'm probably one who despises them more than most.
Anyway, I did post that link and this afternoon, I was thinking about it and it really only gave the highest ever temperature recorded without mentioning other factors to consider like humidity, length of days it's so hot, et al. I won't argue that the heat affects what I do for many months. I don't like for it to dictate to me when I can do what I want to do outside, but it definitetly does.
Satan's Storm should be on that list. I guess it wasn't because it didn't last at 140 degrees but for several hours. That was in 1960 in Bosque County, Texas.
Right now, Dallas is comparable in temperature except in Dallas, it's more humid with Phoenix, Las Vegas, Death Valley, and Palm Springs. Palm Springs is only 103, 22% humidity and a dew point of 57 which makes it more comfortable than Dallas. Gadzooks. With looking up these statistics, it makes me hate Texas weather even more. Please triple digits go away.....I hate all three of you.
