Smile Weather in Dallas

Hi everyone! I hope someone may be able to help me here. I have a friend who has family out in Wills Point and plans to move there soon herself. She keeps trying to convince me to move out there also. My one main concern is the weather in the Dallas area. I would be looking to move to north/north eastern Dallas. From what I've heard you guys have some outrageous storms out there. I'm from Florida and am used to bad thunderstorms and hurricanes but am not in an area prone to tornadoes or flooding. Are these regular occurences? Thank you in advance for your replies.

No.
The main weather problems are heat and humidity. Coming from Florida that shouldn't be a change

Dallas weather in a nutshell -

1. Really Hot in the Summer.
2. Pretty nice the rest of the year.
3. Sometimes we have big thunderstorms.
4. Tornadoes possible but rare.
5. Snows lightly a couple times in winter.
6. Few big ice storms in winter.

Any questions?

And our thunderstorms often include hail. Covered parking is a nice thing to have during these occasions.

The hail is a very good point... that is an aspect of TX storms some other areas don't deal with as much. Having lived on the east coast for a number of years, I can attest that the ferocity of thunderstorms was every bit as bad there. Plus we got the tail end of many hurricanes, which did more damage to my property than any tornado has ever done in DFW (never seen one!).

Tornadoes and flooding will be more common here than in Florida. Still rare occassions but you will see more flood/severe weather warnings here than in Florida even during hurricane season.

Ice storms are really only once or twice per year - or not at all. Everything usually melts the next day.

Dallas has had only one major tornado in 150 years - it was in 1957.

FWIW I find the Florida humidity and heat much worse than what we have here.
