Default Living the California Dream in Texas

Living the California Dream In Texas : NPR

"We asked listeners to tell us about how their California Dreams have changed in the rough economy. Listener Brian Keller wrote in to tell us about the prestigious job he landed right out of grad school. But the salary wasn't keeping up with the cost of living, so now he's moving to Dallas.."

They're welcome to come here but I hope that they behave better than many of the California people already here who expect us to conform to their expectations of what life ought to be--which most of us Texans absolutely don't want to see.

They're all moving here! More are moving out of California than in - Los Angeles Times

It's nice to see growth in a city, but I don't want the growth to be so extreme that we don't have the infrastructure plans to keep up with it. No way would I want LA-esque traffic in Dallas.

Hey, I believe that TX whips California any day of the week--they might bring that attitude but if it does not change they will obviously find it too tedious to stay and move somewhere else--
and of course most of the people in those news bites are people who did find some measure of success/happiness here in TX or OK--so odds are there are some people who did not...but they were not around for the interview...

The heavily populated areas of California are in an economic and social collapse and so anybody who can is fleeing that inferno of a society. Since Dallas and Houston are now the 4th and 5th largest urban areas in North America, they are the natural recipients of much of this tide of refugees.

The problem is that the Cali immigrants are smart enough to leave a sinking ship, but many of them still do not realize the full irrationality of the society they left behind. For those in that category, it is necessary to educate them, rather than try to humor, patronize or propitiate them. They need to learn.

Can't they just build a California Wall? Maybe place snipers on both sides shooting people trying to enter or leave? That would make people happy on both sides ...

My old boss in Sacramento told me that when his grandparents left Oklahoma for Cali in the Dust Bowl era, the California State police actually held the Okies in a sort of detention camp on the border for quite a while. It took a court ruling for them to be allowed to actually enter the state.

I was born in Texas and live here until I was 11, my parents moved us to So Cal where the grandparents were. Once I became an adult I moved back to Texas the first chance I got...some people here in Texas call me a transplant and get rude once they know I came from California. If I could have I would have stayed here...but I was 11. California is getting worse and worse. Yes I moved here with my California realestate money and purchased my Texas size home....however the only thing I miss is the Mountains. Which I heard you can find in South West Texas.....never been that far.

So am I a transplant or a Native?
