Default Cities of Wilmer and Hutchins

Ah, the cities of Wilmer and Hutchins. They lie south of the city of Dallas along Interstate 45. The small towns, located in Dallas County, are somewhat small. In 2000, Wilmer had 3,393 people, and Hutchins had 2,805 people. Both towns were plurality White.

The towns were once a part of the dreaded Wilmer-Hutchins ISD, which served a bit of southern Dallas, Wilmer, almost all of Hutchins, and some of Lancaster. Wilmer-Hutchins ISD was regarded as the worst school district in Texas, with corrupt school board officials and few supplies for the kids. The district ran out of steam by summer 2005, so Dallas ISD agreed to educate kids from the area in its own campuses for one school year. The following summer saw the forced merger of WHISD into DISD. DISD became the region's school district for good.
