Default thinking of moving

I am thinking about relocating to Texas w/in the next year or so. Currently I am working in the Social Service field and I will have my clinical license in Social Work at the end of the summer. I am moving from Chicago, so this will be a big transition for me. I have been looking at homes in the 175-200k range. I've heard about Highland North, Bear Creek Crossing, Avondale, Wolf Creek Estates, and Gateway Estates. But Texas is so big, I don't know where to begin. I have a soon to be junior high student, so schools are important in this transition. I want a diverse neighborhood, and info on the job market would be great.
