Dallas is about 100 miles from Tyler. They are both good depending what you are looking for. How big of a city do you want. You want small town feel? Then Tyler is your answer. Dallas is a big city. Tyler has Univ. of Texas campus, Dallas has several colleges.
Do you have more specifc questions about the 2 areas?

Tyler vs Dallas
thanks for the reply...have you lived in both areas? i guess my concern with moving to a smaller city is lack of a "downtown feel" (outdoor restaurants, coffee shops etc) ...we are originally from a suburb outside of LA and now live in Hawaii...we've decided to move back to the mainland as it's too expensive to live in HI.. and will not return to CA for sure!!..do you know anything about lake Tyler? it sure would be nice to live near water since we got used to seeing the ocean from our deck here now! lol ...were really looking for a lush landscape, laid back atmosphere, friendly people.... my fear of a "small town" is boredom...our kids are grown, so no need to worry about school systems (thank god)!!....what do you know about crime in dallas?....any help you can give would be awesome!!

Actually, we are getting ready to move either to the Tyler or Dallas area. I have done ALOT of research on both places and we visited Tyler for 5 days back in July. I loved Tyler. It's bigger than where I live now, but MUCH friendlier and offers everything we want. However, we are contemplating starting our own business there (like we have in Arizona) and are thinking larger city and have been looking into suburban areas of Dallas. I'm not much on living in the city, we want a couple of acres and a couple of horses etc.
Ripley would be a good person to offer advice on Tyler/Longview area and Momof2dfw would be your best source for advice for Dallas.
It really just depends what you are wanting.
Good luck!

I live in the Arizona desert (Bullhead City, AZ). It's 125+ here in the summertime. When we were in Texas in July, it was duting their "heatwave". Everyone was complaining about the heat. We ENJOYED it! It was nothing complared to Las Vegas when we got on the plane lol.
We own a carpet cleaning/flood & water restoration business. My husband is kind of thinking about going back to college to become a teacher.
Tyler was very BEAUTIFUL and green and lots of tall trees everything we lack in the desert lmbo.
We plan on getting out of here by July.
Anymore questions...Ask away!
