Default Moving to Tyler, Maybe?

We might be moving to the Tyler area... What are some good areas? What schools are the best? We have a 4 year old, 2 year old and 1 year old. We are trying to find a house, maybe on the water a lake or pond. Is Tyler nice? What is there to do for young kids? Young Families? Any info will help, thanks

Tyler is a wonderful place! Go to search and put in Tyler or East Texas. It will give you some very good information. We moved here from the DFW area last August and have never regretted our decision.

Default places in and around Tyler

You may want to check out Whitehouse, Bullard, Chandler, Flint, Gresham which are all within about 6 minutes of Tyler. You will want to stay away from North, West and downtown Tyler. I would say go south of loop 323

The crime rate in Tyler is really bad and there a quite a few gangs, If I were you I would go for lindale which is an easy 10 minute commute from Tyler, has a Walmart and a grocery store but yet still has the small town feel with minimal crime. Hate for you to put your children in dangerous situations! Hope this helps!

My mother & two younger siblings live right off the loop in Southeast Tyler. They're just a few minutes away from a lot of shops & the mall, and there's plenty of grocery stores around. From what I can tell they're perfectly happy with the area and the neighborhood they're in is pretty nice. She bought 1600 sqft 1960's home for a little over 100k and its right on the side of a hill. One thing I do miss about east texas (I grew up there) is all the trees. Tons of tall tall trees.

My younger brother went to Moore Middle School and had mixed feelings. While he was in the gifted classes he said the school had some jerkoffs that messed with him on a few occasions. Of course he runs his mouth a lot, so who knows for sure. Both my brother and younger sister go to Winona schools though now, because my parents bother teach there.

Tyler has "wannabe" gangs & its concentrated mostly on the east side of town (East Side Locos) where the population is majority Hispanic. Crime has risen here, but no worst than anywhere else in the state.

I don't find crime bad at all in Tyler, in fact, relatively speaking, the crime rate is pretty darn good. Of course, I've always lived in larger cities, so I'm coming from that frame of reference. Lindale is a nice area, but it is 20 minutes from south Tyler, where I live. If I were looking all over again, I'd probably choose Hide-a-Way, on the lake... or in Flint on the lake. There are a lot of lakes to choose from around here.
