So, sort of a spinoff from another thread, but would love to get other's recommendations of locally-owned restaurants (ie...mom & pop places) in the suburbs...Thanks!

(Oh, and FWIW...I'm just asking for suburbs because I know there are a load in Dallas proper, which I frequent regularly, but you have to look a little harder out here in the 'burbs)

a few in Denton:

Wine2 (read wine squared): beer, wine, few appetizers
J&J's Pizza: really yummy stuff
Hannah's: I don't find their entrees to be that great, but good appetizers. Also half price martinis on Thurs
Andaman Thai: not my fav Thai place, that's in Dallas, but will do in a pinch.
Guissepie's Italian Restaurant
Greenhouse Restuarant
Denton County Independent Hamburger Company
Ravelin Bakery
Keiichi (fantastic sushi!!)
Beth Marie's Ice Cream shop

There are several others whose food I don't particularly like, but other locals do, such as Frilly's and Three Fins

Totally agree about Awaji. For the price it's very good sushi.

If you like Chinese I suggest you try Yao Fuzi, which is right next to Awaji in Plano. It's not a normal chinese take out place, though. It's kinda like PF Changs, but better. Go there and have dinner and you will love it. It's run by a father and son. The father takes care of the cooking and the son watches the dining area. I've never talked to the father, but the son is very nice and will tell you all about anything on the menu.

I love Espraza's. (spelling?)

I also love Roma's in The Colony.

There is another Italian place in Frisco, I can't remember the name of, but it's on 121 and Coit near the Subway. I went there for pizza, but tried some other stuff and it's pretty good.

I absolutely cannot stand "The Italian Villa." It was just disgusting.
