do you guys know of any restricted income housing in plano? they seem to be hard to find. i'm disabled, but am doing this "ticket to work" (a social security thing)part time from home. i've never lived in section 8 or disabled housing before. the rents are just SO high in dallas/plano compared to atlanta!!!!! wow!
i was paying $400/month in regular housing, which included w/d, cable, high speed, water, trash, elec, gas, etc.
gaaaaaaaaaaah!

I am totally with you on the anti-twc thing. Time Warner has horrible service and customer service. I know of a TON of people who have cancelled their service with them. Verizon Fios is AMAZING! I love it and encourage anybody who can get it, to get it! You will be glad you did!

Totally agree! TWC has many issues, but Verizon's FiOS is truly fantastic. I have telephone/digital television and Internet with them, and the Internet speeds always tests at greater speeds (15/2). I'm very happy and I have yet to have any downtime or issues with Verizon. I most definitely cannot say that about TWC...

jeni, you can get FiOS tv/internet/phone package for about $100 a month.
however, as I said before, I have NEVER found an apartment complex in Plano (or anywhere else for that matter) with FiOS. Everyone who has FiOS lives in a house.
Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to move to a complex with FiOS, but I haven't seen it anywhere- uptown, addison, plano, wherever, when I looked in December.
If this has changed, someone let me know. My lease is expiring soon.
The closest I've found is the Ygnition service offered in Post Addison Circle. It's about as fast as cable, without all the TWC ugliness.

Yep, when I lived in an apt in plano I had to use DSL from SBC. Then I got Dish Network for TV cause I didn't want to deal with Time Warner.

uverse is AT&T's cable + internet package.
Uverse is available in Dallas. Dallas cable is run through AT&T, Northern suburbs are run through Time Warner.
So, if you're looking in Plano, you're stuck with TWC. hooray competition!!!!

i'm looking for a complex near 75024. definately want a pool, which seems typical there, and w/d in my apt.
i lived in atlanta for 15 years and those things were common. not sure what it's like in texas.
is there lot's of free wifi around? what satellite or cable companies are used?
also, is kroger the most popular grocery?
thanks!!!!

I'll try and give you my 2 cents also, although I think you're into 411 overload by now.
Yepper, you picked the 90210 section of 75024. Higher property values abode! However, little does very many people know, there is a section 8 apartment complex on Parkwood Blvd. just south of Parker Road and from Google Earth, I see they have 2 pools.
Tom Thumb and Kroger are the ruling grocery stores around here. Although my wife loves Central Market which is a fancy schmancy HEB at Coit and US-190 "The Bush". There is also a whoop-dee-doo Walmart just south of Park Blvd. and the Tollway. You can buy your fancy French Wines there. I visited there once. Albertsons seems to be on the way out. Their stores were always filthy anyway. Walmart, aka Wally World, has their Super Walmarts with groceries along with the Super Target stores. I like Costco but you have to be a member.
Free Wifi? Well, I've done my share of War Driving and there are many hotspots around town. Almost all the hotels will be a hotspot. Just park near the entrance and boot-up. Right here from my office I see 4 open access points appearing on my NetStumbler. Although I have my own closed AP.
I haven't lived in an apartment in twenty years but a buddy of mine did and he was bummed because they had to use the phone/internet/tv service provided by the apartment company. Most all apartments have W/D in the apartments.
Welcome to town!
