What about tornadoes? Does it come to Frisco area at all? I am planning to move to Frisco soon and would appreciate any input on this.

Um, the DFW area get's very few tornadoes. We are under tornado warnings & watches sometimes, but it is definitely nothing to worry about or keep you from moving to Frisco. Hope this helps!

Your chances of getting hit by a tornado is about the same as winning the lottery. We get strong winds and warnings but thats just about it. I would put tornadoes at 247 when it comes to the top 10 reasons not to move to Texas (unless you live in a mobile home).

Ya I definitely agree with that. People think that because the DFW area is in North Texas and close to Oklahoma that we get a lot of tornadoes, but we don't at all!

the funny thing is that what Texans call cookie cutter burbs most people call "desireable, luxury" communities.

Living in Florida once in my life I can say that if you cut out the beach and carribean, latin culture- Texas is an upgrade by far to Florida.

How can one compare flat tampa to hilly austin??

sports and night life are a wash when you compare the major cities in TX to Florida. If you take out miami the Texas cities win by a land slide.

If you have no attachments to family or the beach you should have no problem adjusting to texas except for getting used to the proud TEXAS attitude.

Florida is a melting pot first and then you are floridian second.
Its opposite in TX. you are Texan 1st and then everything else follows. IF you can handle that everything will be just fine.

Also folks here are way more competitive with each other than in the sunshine state...that will take some getting used to as well.

When I first arrived here I told my friends that DFW is like Florida if you had a chance to do florida over again and build it brand new. Since they have come to visit they now understand what I meant by that statement.

I had to adjust to the watches and warnings.
DFW is pretty windy and when a nice storm moves through it can get pretty scary if you are not used to it. But you will adjust over time and appreciate the colorful skys when it gets stormy.
I've been through many storms in Florida and on DFW has stronger storms than Florida.
DFW storms tend to linger and move slowly and come frequently.
Your summer storms in Florida are like rain showers.

But you will never have to worry about a hurricane so that is a huge plus.

Yup, that's for sure! When a hurricane hits the coast of Texas, the most we get in the DFW area is rain from the after effects.

I think on the news last night I saw some photos of waterspouts (tornadoes over water) off the coast of New Jersey.
