There is obviously an attempt to take money from unsuspecting drivers. Enforcing 30 mph in zones that can easily be 35 or 40 is legal but pigheaded. I do not see a confusion issue with different speeds- this aint rocket science. I know this is the law, but it is stupid (laws can be stupid sometimes). You can also "follow the speed limit" on the highways but there are speed traps with cops handing out tickets for speeding very slightly over the limit - people get miffed but am sure there is always a person in that village who is happy with the setup and has the same solution of following the limit.

So really you didn't want to see how the locals felt; you wanted to make a statement. That's called a rant, which is what you said it wasn't.

The cops are there because people are speeding through the neighborhood. I applaud them for that. Ya, they could have rollercoaster speed limits. Then there would be yet another whiner on here complaining about that.

I say again: drive the speed limit and get over it...

--sure the discussion with you turned into a rant (actually, it was an explanation), get over it as there was a reason for it
-- many laws are pigheaded - like slavery etc. People rant about them too & I have no problem with it.
-- If people are speeding a lot, tickets are justified. Stupid tickets and laws are not.

Believe me, I'm all for a good rant. Just call it what it is instead of saying you're asking the question to "see how locals feel". And yes, people are speeding a lot. That's why the cops are there.

I have zero problems with these people getting tickets -esp if they are speeding by say over 5mph in the streets. The impression I was given by 2 of my new neighbors (I just moved to Murphy) was that the tickets given were not the "normal" tickets. Examples cited were getting a ticket for not stopping for a full couple of seconds at the stop sign in Betsy-Dublin intersection, or speeding by 3 mph in a 30 zone (not school zone) -these seemed to be harsh. These were not opinions of teenagers etc - both the neighbors are fairly high up in the corporate ladder and are likely to not lie about something like this. Add to this the low speed limits, and one begins to wonder....then one goes to city-data and asks.....

I hear you, and don't disagree with these examples either. But believe me, Park is still a neighborhood, even though the streets are wide and divided, and people drive way too fast. It's almost mandatory that the cops be there, and like I said, it's been that way since the '70's. The real problem was having houses facing such a heavily traveled east-west thoroughfare.

Guys, the single biggest problem is that the roads are built and maintained by different entities - city, county and state. What seems obvious to most is often completely missed by someone at the county or state level. And TxDOT is the absolute worst piece of energy and money we have in Texas. But they've got the funding for the roads so if you want improvements you have to kowtow to them and hope that they will build it, add signals, etc in the same decade.

County isn't quite as bad but they still have to abide by TxDOT in many areas.

Since we are speaking of Betsy Ln in Murphy, could I mention the fact that Betsy now continues past Murphy Rd east toward Wylie? That intersection of a county road and a state road had regular accidents when it was a T. Now we've added another direction for people to come and try to get across or turn onto Murphy Rd. But TxDOT refuses to put a traffic signal in until it's warranted. Which seems to be not only how many accidents are occuring but how many fatalities.

I'd love to see similar roads with similar speeds because I do think the confusion contributes to the problem. But I'm not holding my breath as long as TxDOT is in charge.
