Yes there are a few but they are slim pickings. A couple are foreclosures that are in need of TLC, another one is a short sale and a few others that look interesting.

your price range is probably going to be a big restriction--most of those neighborhoods mentioned are higher and mid-centuries usually have higher price per sq ft == especially if they have been redone from what I have seen....

Sanger is ranked exemplary. However it doesn't feed into Long and Woodrow but I have seen ways others in Forest Hills have been able to transfer in...

Default answers to budget, workplace

our budget is $300-400K. my husband is going to be commuting to ft. worth and me most likely to plano. we would love a mid-century modern but will settle for a clean-lined ranch. thanks for all the suggestions!

I didn't realize Sanger was exemplary since it is still on the PEG list. We transferred out.

OP - If you find a house that you like, but with an unacceptable elem school in DISD, you can transfer out. It's a process, but can be done.

And let me say Liam is glad you did

It really is astounding how many elementary schools in DISD have improved so quickly.

That list is probably old as Sanger just got the great rating.

I remember an absolutely fantastic mid-century modern (had floor symmetrical floor plan on each side of a glass entrance) on the north side of San Leandro in the first block off San Rafael. That would probably be very expensive these days..

Looks like someone has tricked it out -- there's another cool one just to the west if you can get the street view to work.

Another neighborhood you may want to look into is Sparkman Estates. Sparkman Estates is located approximately South of Royal Lane and North of Merrell between Marsh and Webb Chapel. It's a very stable, established neighborhood and values have been rising quite a bit lately.

Here's an article (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/education/backtoschool/stories/082407dnmetndallasb2s.a234f3.html - broken link) about the local elementary school.

Nikisma, I commute to FW and my wife commutes to N. Dallas. I own a mcm in kessler park, south of downtown dallas, but that neighborhood would not meet your requirement for a good public elem. schools, there are some great private schools for elem.
