Austin Museum Partnership

According to the Discover DFW website there are 39 museums in DFW area. A metro area with a population of around 6m.
DFW Museums

At this rate Austin has 3.5 times more museums per million population compared to DFW.
Your information is wrong for Dallas. There are many more than 39 museums in DFW.

One Pegasusnews website lists 90 of Dallas' museums, another Pegasus website lists 350 DFW museums and galleries, other websites list more. The Discover DFW website does not list all the museums in DFW, just a small number of them.

As far as art museums, Austin is simply not in the same league as DFW. Comparing Austin to Dallas is like comparing Dallas to New York. Austin's small number of art exhibition spaces is appropriate to a smaller provincial city, but cannot compare to what you find in a major metropolis. Not only does Dallas have many more museums, but they are larger, contain more significant pieces, are more diverse, have higher endowments and budgets, and mount traveling shows that never make it to places like Austin.

I agree with your post.

Many of the folks I've met in Austin, that adore the city are very young and are easily manipulated by the hype and media advertisements. They don't know any better nor do they know how to use their own judgment nor do they understand about comparing and contrasting. They just go with the mob mentality. There is nothing in Austin. It's very boring, simple, monotone, lacks diversity, etc. Is it a good city to visit once in a blue moon for certain events? Yes. Would I ever go back there again? Probably NOT.

Visitor 2007...I would be working as a Security Liason Officer for a large corporation and I would be making about $120k. I have the option of working from home or one of the offices in Austin or Houston. I have no desire to live in Houston though. I'm not keen on the 20 year old crowd...more like the 30 year crowd would suit me better...ideas? Thanks!

Dallas has a 30s crowd. It is just overall more sophisticated. Just don't move into central Dallas it is ghetto and weird there.

When you refer to "Central" Dallas, do you mean just Downtown or are you referring to Uptown or the area around Fair Park.

Also, does "ghetto" mean "too many black people"? I see a lot of people use that term around here. I know that's the new "N-Word" for some folks nowadays...I hate to bring that up, but it is what it is...

It means a place you don't want to be in at night if you belong to a Mexican gang.

Austin's nightlife is feuled by its mass of college students in their late teens and early 20s, and by a smaller number of grizled intellectuals, professional students and status quo outlaws.

By their late 20s and early 30s, the former students are long gone from Austin, trying to establish professional careers, in Dallas or Houston or somewhere else.

Near the fair park area looked run down and shabby, perhaps gangs run those areas too. Has nothing to do with blacks or minorities.

You don't want to get accidentally shot or robbed by gangs, druggies, or thieves....
