Those families make up to half of their annual income by "leasing" out their property so I feel for them, but you can barely squeeze between the cars after they're parked (think door-ding city).
I lived in Pleasant Grove for 25 years, so it's still fresh in mind...

FYI, The DISD had more than 1 "Fair Day". They have one day set aside for just High School Fair Day. That is the one I'd avoid.
Tuesdays are my favorite day to go. Get in cheap w/ a Dr Pepper can and rides are 1/2 price (tickets).

I once went to the Minnesota State Fair and I was the only black man there. What a shock!

That was just because you and Prince were the only Black folks in Minnesota that day. (yeah, just joking with you.)
You can hang with us if you like. We are whitish folks but barely know the difference. We take the kids to at least one of the (cheap entry with a Dr. Pepper can) Family Days. Something like only $3 in, and not so crowded as the weekends.
My advice on the food -- skip the deep fried everything (from deep-fried ice cream, deep fried pickles, and deep-fried skittlels). Instead go the Old Mill restaurant on the fair grounds. They keep long hours during the fair and it is very fine and pleasant, old time Black operated business. Gotta keep the money in the neighborhood, yunno?

Considering White is the minority in Dallas at "only" 49%, you should be fine...
Do you like fried foods? Everything is fried from pickles to coke to gizzards to cheesecake to anything that can have a coating on it, and they stick it in oil, trans-fat free oil.
Personally, I go for the funnel cakes!

Don't forget Fried Green Tomatoes inside the Centennial Building - the side backing up to the Midway.
If you go to the Fletcher's Corny Dog stand in front of Big Tex, be sure to look for the little house from which Tex gets his voice (the Old Mill is behind there). The voice of Big Tex is really into old time radio if you want to talk to him on a break.
