Default Ragweed treatment?

I get bad allergies starting at end of August and it goes through October. Runny nose, stuffed nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, etc. It's bad!! This only happens to me in the south. I've lived in Maryland for the past 8 years and havent experienced it at all. I just came to Dallas to look at houses and I'm getting the RAGWEED allergies again.

Although I don't see others with it around me I know there has to be people who are really suffering. Clariton D doesnt work, Zyrtec doesnt work, nothing seems to help.

What are you doing to cope with them? Everything I read online says to hide from the ragweed which is pretty hard to do! They say to keep your windows closed, don't go outside as much, clean your AC vents, etc.

I'm looking for a vaccine. Does anyone have any success stories? Keep in mind this is just ragweed I suffer from. Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe you could try one of the steroidal nasal sprays like Flonase or Nasonex.

When I was a kid my parents started me on the desensitizing shots but we never finished them and ragweed was one of my bigger allergies, so I feel you pain.

Youe need a prescription nose spray as mentioned above. You get to the point where you barely have to use it and you show no signs of any allergies.

You might look into herbal treatments. Maybe this site has something:

Your source for herbal remedies, alternative medicine, and organic supplements

Or, search for herbal remedies for allergies. I was advised years ago to take a tablespoon of local honey each day, but I couldn't handle it. It might work for you, though. I'm just super sensitive to things.

Keep in mind that you have to take allergy medications for 1-2 weeks before they start to work... so it's not something like a decongestant where it will work 30 minutes later.

For me personally, Allegra works for most of my allergies, but for ragweed and mountain cedar, I have to take Nasacort AQ in addition to the Allegra.

Generic Claritin provided me with some relief from ragweed. Costco and Sams Club sell 300-count bottles of the stuff for around $10.

I have so many other allergies that I also do the desensitizing shots.
