Over all, I think you will be surprised at the lack of tensions in Dallas compaired to the Midwest. Yes everwhere you will find those people on both sides. However, if you treat people how you want to be treated, you won't have a problem at all.

Arlington is probably the most diverse of all the Metroplex cities & South Arlington near I-20 & 360 is growing a lot.

I tend to disagree. We are an AA family that moved to E. Frisco/W. McKinney from Atlanta about 2 years ago, and although there are a lot of Whites here there is also a fast growing Black middle class and a nice sprinkle of all races as well. If you are looking for top-rated schools, access to quality services, low crime and good family activities then Collin County (Frisco, McKinney & Plano) is one of the best choices in the DFW.
The only downside is finding a church with a significant Black population. There are a handful of good ones nearby (Covenant in Carrollton and Friendship in The Colony), but many Blacks living up here travel to the "Southside" to go to church. As you know, Sunday IS still the most segregated day of the week! (which is sad)

I challenge you to go eat at the IHOP on Preston across from Stonebriar Mall on Sunday Morning. Or observe the Starbucks on Plano Parkway/Midway during the weekday mornings. Or just visit Stonebriar Mall. Or any of the daycare centers up and down Midway.

HEY!! I eat at the IHop on Preston Road and I'm AA. There are ALWAYS people from various races there when I go there. Not to mention, I ran into Tony Dorsett (former Cowboys running back) while in the Wing Stop right next door, and last I checked he is Black too!! And your comment about Stonebriar Mall - I run into Dion Sanders and his family all the time!! LOL

So Intense, I'm corious as to what you decided or are leaning toward. I am from the midwest area as well. Kansas City to be exact, and I will be traveling to Dallas over New Years to check it out and will be definitely move in May 2009. Im looking for diversity as well, but with an environment that has at a 40-45% saturation of AA middle class families. I've been told to look at Duncanville, Lewisville, South arlington and South Grand Prairie, Im only going to be in town for 4 days so I'll be doing alot of running!! Let me know what you find out.

Take a look at the Creek Crossing area of Mesquite. I live in the area and right now it's really diverse. We have a healthy population of AA, White and Hispanic. You also get alot of house for the money. Certainly add it to your list and do a drive thru.

This goes for ALL RACES and ETHNIC backgrounds. Otherwise the area is pretty diverse - that is IF the people that REALLY want "diversity" are OPEN to ALL people regardless of race or ethnic background. I'd say that actually most "whites" are more accepting of others than many other races and ethnicities.

My son is now a middle schooler and both his elementary and middle school are recognized. I have been in Dallas for 45 years and will say this about the races. For the most part people choose were they live based on economics rather than race. The higher your income the whiter the neighborhood will be. Most of the city of Dallas is made up of poor and upper middle class to wealthy folks. The middle class in the city is made up of retirees mostly. Just about everyone else moves to the surburbs. The southern burbs have a larger population of AA while the northern burbs have more whites. This is not to say that the southern burbs only have poor folks or the northern burbs have only have the well to do. All groups are present in each burb. What I will say is if your family income is 80k year your neighbors will be about the same regardless of color. If you make 200k a year your neighbors will make about the same. Unless a person decides on a rural area I would challenge anyone show me a 200k house that is in a all white, hispanic or black neighborhood.

All one has to do is take a walk along say...cedar springs' bars, or an arlington apartment complex and you'll notice "birds of feathers flocking together". In my honest opinion, it seems segregated here. No, its not major wholesale 1960's segregation, but its more subtle.
Now, thats not to say people dont hangout with each other who arent "of the same feather". They do. BUT when you look closely, say a group or groups of... (if you're from someplace else you'll notice immediately) it is apparent. For crying out loud, they even have 2 seperate 'gay days' here sorta like Orlando. One is regular gay day the other is black gay day. What the hell is that? S-E-G-R-E.....
I dont know why its like that, but maybe thats just how it is here. The key is to find people who arent like that, and luckily I've been able to. Regardless, its ridiculous to be that way in the 1st place.
