I'm just giving the information that the teachers of this particular school have been giving me. But, yes, my friend DOES get the 2K yearly raise, and so do others. I know the Masters doesn't add a huge amount to that, but it does add some.
It may just have to do with a particular contract, and there may be a ceiling on the increase. I don't know all of the details.

sometimes growing as a district is not the best thing in the world--
Southlake Carroll has a very stable school population as does Highland Park--they don't seem to be suffering because they are not growing like Keller or Northwest...
check out this link with salary info for local districts
http://www.ueatexas.com/2007-2008UEA...eMetroplex.pdf
Northwest is not listed--maybe because it is consider outside the Metroplex since it does have Dallas co schools like Duncanville and Mansfield
Frankly I think HEBs pay scale holds up pretty well when compared to other larger districts with definitely more commercial resources--but then again they also have more overhead--more schools, employees, expenses overall to support...
you certainly have a right to your opinion--

HEB ISD beats Northwest starting salary by about $300, but then once you go up in steps, Northwest passes HEB right away. But in no way am I criticizing HEB ISD as I think it is a great school district and know many people who went there and they have said that it is wonderful.
Also your link to the comparison of salaries for different school districts is outdated as it is for the 2007-2008 school year. We are now in the 2008-2009 school year. I checked the website and they don't have one out yet for it.
Northwest is considered in the Metroplex as their schools are in Trophy Club, Justin, Rhome, North Keller, and Roanoke. All of those areas are considered in the Metroplex. It is really weird how the lines run for Northwest and it is a HUGE district, covering 232 square miles. I live in Decatur and when you get on 287 South heading towards Fort Worth, you are in Northwest ISD in like 2 minutes.

DFW salary data online
You can view the actual salaries handed out at www.govfetch.com. says it comes from the state ed dept and you can search by district, job type or even school. It's helpful when scouting around for salary info.

years of service
Don't most school districts only accept a certain amount of service credit? I work in a school district that only takes 7 years of service credit no matter how many years a person has taught.

that is an option for the ISD--
I taught 5 years in Houston ISD and got credit for 3 when I was hired at HEB--but I was also only working part time...

Does anyone know of any orchestra teaching positions open?
I have a masters and 12 years experience and would like something rural!

You would need to go to different school district websites and look for their openings to find out.

You can also go to Region X or other Regions in Texas as they post job postings for the various districts. Region X includes Carrollton and a various other districts. Region XI ,I believe is Lewisville and others. I just know Carrollton and Lewisville work out of different Region Centers.

some districts post their jobs via the Region X or XI webs and some don't
and I doubt that any jobs are posted now since school is in session for long time
even openings have been filled with a long-term sub probably
there are few schools that have "orchestra" posts
they want band directors...unless they are a magnet school
might try the FTW music magnet or Dallas ISD
most rural districts have fewer music posts than larger metro districts
new jobs for next year post about March or April maybe--
you can check the Region X or XI web site to get links to all districts in this area--rural and metro

I went online recently for a friend and Region X had quite a few jobs listed for a variety of districts. I was quite surprised to see these postings myself. Anyhow...there are some jobs posted and it isn't March. It never hurts to look at these sites even though it is not the typical time of the year. On another note some teachers retire or move in December and many jobs pop up for Janurary start dates.
